Thanks for the update, PennineAcute; so you were correct: A simple, easily avoided admin error on their part. It is hardly your fault they cannot set up a DD in a timely fashion, is it? The incompetence of these companies would have left me speechless years ago; now, I expect it and anything remotely efficient is a welcome bonus... Cynical, moi?
Glad you have resolved it.0 -
I worked it out to be a 41p overcharge. In the grand scale of things, not a great deal. Not sure how many customers EON have, but if they over charged all their customers 41p, not far off £50K profit, per 1m customers. Thank goodness for Facebook, as I would not have probably done anything about it, if I had had to phone.
What I will give them credit for, was that they immediately sorted out the issue. I suppose anyone can make an error, but it is how they deal with the errors that count. On that part, I cannot fault them.0 -
With online chat and phone calls, I have not found the same level of competence; here's hoping.
It is now almost two weeks since I switched and, for some reason, the electricity reading is still outstanding according to both suppliers' websites; the gas is fine. I thought the gas was supposed to take the longest. Either way, there is no good reason for the delay I can see; I provided readings the day they were asked for (one week before the switch) on the day of the switch and again on the last day to avoid estimated bills, one week after the switch: Still nothing. This is delaying my refund from nPower.0 -

Ofgem were going to mandate automatic compensation if you had to wait more than eight weeks to get a refund from the old supplier. Yes, EIGHT weeks ! (And that's supposed to be progress?)
But it gets worse. There's now automatic compensation if you don't get a refund two weeks after the final bill. But although the deadline for producing the final bill is six weeks, Ofgem funked it: they chickened out at the last moment and there's not going to be any penalty if the energy companies miss it. So a prompt refund is a crock of gold at the end of the rainbow, as you get closer towards it, it just moves further away. The energy companies can still take as long as they like to produce your final bill.
So the best you can expect is six weeks for the final bill and a refund two weeks after that. Or it might be at Christmas, place your bets... good old dozy Ofgem.
With computerised networks and Faster Payments, there really is no reason why an energy switch and associated refund shouldn't be completed by the end of the next working day. After all, they don't have to load up a stagecoach and send the horses to the other end of the country.0 -
I swear it would be quicker and far more efficient if they did, Gerry1.
I know it used to take 7-8 weeks to switch (last time I did was nearly 7 years ago and it's not because I have not been watching the tariffs; I have) Now, it's supposed to take 17-21 days... On (virtual) paper; in practice, it still takes at least 7-8 weeks so what the hell was the point of that, Ofgem?
Who is "Gem" anyway? Anyone watch the Handmaid's tale?;)0 -
Who is "Gem" anyway?
Ofgem are governed by GEMA (Gas and Electricity Markets Authority) who claim "We will ensure that Ofgem will operate as an efficient organisation, driven by skilled and empowered staff, that will act quickly, predictably and effectively in the consumer interest, based on independent and transparent insight into consumers’ experiences and the operation of energy systems and markets.":rotfl:0 -
The Handmaid's Tale bit went whoosh, didn't it? Never mind, it's not for everyone.0

Well, hallelujah and praise the lawd! I can finally see the electricity reading I gave on switch day, two weeks ago, on my Eon account; it's even the one I gave them! The old supplier's also shows a confirmed reading instead of an estimate and it's the same. I shall take this as a good sign and hope for a final bill and my refund in the not too distant.
Must have used the Pony Express instead of the slowcoach, after all.0 -
^^ sounds about right, i had my electric meter reading show up around 10 days after my switch to EON (gas was far earlier).0
