A former colleague had worked as an entertainer and had, apparently, been praised by/ knew/had dated/ regularly corresponded with an increasingly large number of stars and celebs..... unfortunately, the stories changed at each telling and became more and more extreme each time.

Great to listen to if you had a good memory :o

There was a man on another forum I used years ago.

People I knew IRL on there had met him and he'd seemed the real deal, so no reason not to believe him. He'd been single all his adult life, then all of a sudden met a girl. They were engaged quite quickly and started planning their wedding. Not long after they met, she joined the forum and seemed to be a nice lass as well.

One day she posted, upset. He hadn't come home the previous night after work and had been missing over 24 hours. Of course people were upset and those who had met him, had him on FB, had a mobile number for him etc. were trying to contact him and getting no replies. Others on the forum were trying to support her, saying he loves you, he'll be back soon etc.

I can't remember how it came to light but he wasn't missing and the fiancee had never existed, it was him posting as both of them all along.

Goodness knows why he did it, as he seemed a nice man and was well-liked on the forum until this stunt that caused a lot of hurt to real people who had thought highly of him. Was he so lonely he'd made up the girlfriend story in a moment of madness and didn't know how to get out of it? Who knows?

Then a couple of years later came a similar story. A woman this time, with a husband IRL and again people had met both of them, the husband certainly existed in this case. One day "he" posted she was on life support and not expected to live. A forum member I knew IRL who had met the pair of them was texting "him" at the hospital and posting regular updates on the woman's condition. For a couple of days, until a brave forum member stuck her head on the block and said that none of the medical details rang true. She was dogpiled for that at first until a couple of days later when (again, I don't remember details) the lies came to light.

Wife existed and was not on life support, husband existed but had never been on the forum nor texting from her bedside - it was wife posting and texting.

Again, she hurt real people and lost friends. Goodness knows why, or how she thought she'd get away with it?
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

The council here do help with bond money in some circumstances, Shelter do too. If he had been evicted he wouldn't have got another property with the same landlord so I'd probably assume the eviction was the lie.

Thanks for the explanation. From my cynical side I would have thought he did get evicted (possibly kept the rent to use as deposit and admin fee). That is just me :D

Can't think of anything specific, but years ago when I was 17 and a hairdressing apprentice my boss took on this 16yo lad called Paul. Paul told us what a skilled hairdresser he was, and bragged about all sorts of stuff he'd done. Now hairdressing is a skill you have to learn - putting a perm roller in is more fiddly than it looks, and if you don't know what you're doing when you're cutting someones hair it shows in the way you hold the hair + comb + scissors. Us apprentices saw through him and got fed up with him, and he didn;t stay long

someone I know has a child who is always ill. The boy is 5 and he has had meningitis 5 or 6 times- always life threatening. The mum has had it too and was in hospital overnight.

The worst thing is the little lad's grandma is a nurse at the hospital he is always being rushed too (once for a blocked nose!!!). Sadly I think the hospital think there is a case of Munchausen's whereas I think it is drama queen at work.

I have a relative who has had meningitis twice. She's not a liar though, just the most unlucky person I know and still living with the after effects. Plus I would imagine it is pretty difficult to fake being in an isolation ward! 5 times though - wouldn't you run out of strains?
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I was very impressed by a poster on another board who was to carry the Olympic Torch last year. I told my OH of this and of the posters achievements that were being recognised. The honour was well deserved in my opinion.

I looked it up on the Olympic website to admire the occassion and celebrate my 'virtual' proximity to this good citizen.

My pixel hero was a legend in his own mind.
  • Haha loving these stories :p

It's quite sick really, a girl in my college class told us she was a twin but it died when she was born and each year on her birthday she would go to her twins grave. When I was at her house one day the topic came up about twins and my friends mum said 'we thought you were a twin but it turns out the midwife heard my heartbeat and yours'

Never trusted a word she said after that!
