As you realised, I chose my words carefully. Can you IMAGINE the times I had to tell a straight A 22 year old that they had to do more maths coursework and an exam as their GCSES were no longer recognised
Thanks for explaining, that's interesting.
Do you know what the supposed reason(s) are though. I'm not quite getting the meaning of recognition in this context.
Someone shows their A level certs that are older than five years to an employer - who says, sorry, they're more than five years old so I can't "recognise" them. So we'll have to assess you based on your CV and interview and ignoring your school exams, which are not "recognised".
Is this universal, across the board, or only in certain circumstances. Does it apply to degrees as well or only school exams. As you can see, rather odd and inexplicable to me.
Not that I'm doubting what you're saying - I'm just interested to find out a bit more about it.
I can only guess that maybe it's to do with fraud and fakery. If not that then what.0 -

I honestly don't know. I think I did ask at the time and it was (inadequately if I recall correctly!) explained to me but I cannot think why now!

No it's just that any certificates if you want to submit as evidence for an NVQ have to be "current" or within the last five years. Be it a 5m breast-stroke (if relevent) or a A* GCSE maths.
If you already have A-levels and a string of gcses, it's unlikely you'd be "downsizing" to an NVQ anyway.
Your GCSEs certificates are valid for the rest of your life. If you need them to enter a particular profession e.g. teaching etc. they'll accept them however old they are!
Edit: from the original post, it doesn't sound like the guy had any GCSEs anyway - so it's irrelevent."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

.
Wrong.
The GCSE is to create a proxy exemption from an aspect of an apprenticeship. Not the same thing as an NVQ, and plenty of people do apprenticeships who have GCSEs and A levels!
I do agree that they do not diminish in value for professions. My point was that in the example given, the chappie MAY have been telling some truth!
Regretting. Starting. This. Now!0 -

Not that I'm doubting what you're saying - well, a long shot, unless possibly you're just playing a game here on this thread about lying, to see how gullible we are and for a laugh, but I don't think that that's likely.
I can only guess that maybe it's to do with fraud and fakery. If not that then what.
I see you edited your post since I last looked!
I may go back and delete my posts, because I feel very much like I am being called a liar, ironic given the thread perhaps but I am really not!
I have explained it as best I can. I am talking about proxy exemptions which is what the post was about that I replied to.
I spent 3 years having the same conversation with candidates, but at least I was paid then :rotfl:0 -

I'm not sure people are calling you a liar emsy, but it is hard to get your head round.
In what context did you need to assess their exams? We're they going back to UNI or college or something?

In my particular field, it was government funded vocational training (business admin, customer service etc) but I know the proxy exemptions were true on other courses at college/uni.
For example, someone whose certificates were over 5 years old but wanted to return as a mature student would have to do an Access course, regardless of what their original grades were.
Sorry for being snappy. The years of stroppy frustrated students has just hit me like a freight train :rotfl:0 -

No, I'm just slightly interested to find out some more about it, so thanks for explaining. As I mention, it's not something I've heard of before so a bit inexplicable to me. But I believe what you're saying, so thanks for letting us know.0 -

I have GCSE's, A-Levels and a DipHe in English and I'm doing an NVQ3 at the minute. I'm having to do Level 2 (ie GCSE) Maths (no problem there, I never passed GCSE Maths) and English because neither my A-Level, GCSE, or university qualifications are deemed 'valid' I refused to go to the classes for English though. I said its wasting everyone's time. I did the mock exam, completed an hour's exam in 10 minutes and got 99%. Tutor was stunned until I told her I've got a university qualification in English to which she looked at me and said what you doing here?? I'm only doing the qualification because its become necessary to my job but I'm also using it to get to uni.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
There is more from my neighbour.
He got evicted because he is behind on rent for about 100ish squid (thought you only get evicted if you are 2 months behind which should be over 800 for him)
His estate agent 'transfered' his deposit from the old place to his new property (is it possible really???)
He and his OH will go for IVF treatment in 6 months on NHS (he has 2 daughters elsewhere)
Apparently I abuse my son, slam the front door, complain about him having pets and my OH constantly cheats on me according to him too
Arent I glad not to be his neighbour any more lol0
