Just a note of caution for people - if you are intending to play games over the internet you need to have a router that will enable port forwarding and lots of then! I just had a look at a site and it looks like the linksys router will do this but no idea about the other one
If you add delivery it comes to £29.96 as in the first post. HTH0 -
If you are looking to make up the extra to get the google discount I would suggest adding in a ADSL filter (there are some cheap ones on eBuyer) as you need them on all Phone sockets and it pays to have a spare.0

Anyone know of a similar offer for cable users?0

For cable users, eBuyer quickfind code 117886 - is £31.68 with Super Saver delivery paid for through Google Checkout.

my laptop is wireless protocols compliant.will i need the usb adaptor0

Nope, you don't need the USB adapter. The wireless adapter is embedded inside your laptop already.0

Or of course you could just go with the very reasonably priced sky broadband package for around 20-30 quid a month which includes sky tv.
This includes a free wireless router bunged in. Add a 4.99 (inc VAT plus p&p) 54g USB dongle and your laughing.
Would this enable me to link my daughter's computer into mine? Hers is only a Pentium MM II (Windows 98), and not linked up to the net yet. Mine's not much better - Windows 2000 Professional on a computer with (bear with me here, I'm quoting from a Belarc printout) 1.15 GH AMD Athlon XP, 128 KB/256 KB primary/secondary memory caches; Drives - 20.01 GB usable HD capacity and 13.59 GB HD free space (phew!).
Nothing grand, but we don't need them for games or music downloads, just web surfing. It would be wonderful to get my daughter online (I'm just ending an AOL broadband lock-in) so she can do her homework and leave my computer alone! We won't be needing internet access at the same time; I'd just rather she kept her mitts off my desk.
I'm a lone parent on an extremely tight budget so don't have the cash to flash when it comes to computer gadgetry. Oh! - and what's a 54g USB dongle, when it's at home, and why will I need one?
Hoping somebody a bit more techy-minded than me can help.
Big thanks!Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Maybe it's not the best choice after all: I have just bought a WiFi Router from FON for 40 euro + 5 euro posting (total 45 euro = £30).
I know it's a bit more expensive, but it's a great small router with a difference: it allows you to join the "Movimiento FON", which means FREE WiFi in tens of thousands of locations worldwide.
It does sound too good to be truth, but it's all based on the simple principle (and I quote) "It all started as a simple idea. Why should you pay for Internet access on the go when you have already paid for it at home? Exactly, you shouldn’t. So we decided to help create a community of people who get more out of their connection through sharing."
If you have a PDA with WiFi, or are out and about with your laptop, this can mean the end of paying for WiFi.0 -
Have been thinking about doing this for a while - thanks Martin, I have now finally done it and saved myself some cash into the bargain. It was easy! Thank you.0
