Hi,spcustomer wrote: »I notice on my December 2012 bill you have charged me for economy 7 when I have nothing wired up for economy 7 and the economy 7 fuseboard is switched off. So what is going on there?
I don't think you know how E7 works.
You say you 'have nothing wired up to E7', did you wire the house yourself?
If not, then your whole house is wired for E7, you may well have the heating 'fuseboard' switched off, but other appliances use overnight electricity.
The 26 hour power cut I believe exceeds your usual ones. Congratualations. Soon you'll be able to cut it off altogether and still keep on charging us.
If it was because of the severe winter weather we've had this weekend, then be happy you are back on, there are still 1000s without power, and could be for a few more days.
If it was because of a planned outage, and you were not informed, then just add it to your list of complaints.
Oh, by the way your spellchecker is not working.0 -
Thanks Frugal.
No, I didn't instrall it myself. It was installed by our local builder in 1960! Yours seems a plausible enough explanation, and so I will try to trace the wiring (it is all surface wiring) and see what there is to be found out.
But when you think about it, would it not have been sensible for an electricity supplier, who can be expected to know these things, to suggest that as one possible explanation for something which otherwise could appear to be fraud?
It still wouldn't explain the extra £1000, but it might at least dilute the fraud idea.0 -
Hi,
here's a bit of reading for you.
With E7 you have day/normal and night/low rates, your whole house switches over to the night/low rate at about 11/12 until 6/7 in the morning, these times change with BST.
So, any electricity used after the switchover will be recorded on the night/low rate.
Your fridge/freezer, you boil a kettle, watch a bit of telly, tv/Sky on standby, washing machine on early in morning, all adds up.0 -
OK. E7: That seems about right, and the wiring looks like that.
I still need to know how many official Scottish Power representative IDs there are, and how many names they used during this discussion.
I also need an explanation of the £1000 overcharge........
and an explanation of how one of my bills give an 'actual' meter reading when there was no way the meter reader could have seen the meter. The meter is inside the house, out of sight of a window, and the house was locked and I was 250 miles away on the date stated.
I night be able to find an explanation of how some of my bills have no meter readings on them, and which ones do not have SP's address on them, but that will take time. It will mean a boring shuffle through mounds of paper.0 -

Are you seriously saying you have not already done this? So you have absolutely no grounds to suspect you have been overcharged. As most people reading your complaint surmised from the very first post you misread 'incorrectly charged' as 'overcharged'. There is, of course, a possibility that there is a mistake - but you seem to be doing your best to avoid presenting any sort of case.
The how and why and type and state of wiring is the responsibility of the householder and the electrician. It has little to do with the supplier.
The Scottish Power representatives communicating with you on MSE are readily identifiable.0 -

ha ha, well I'm certainly not a Scottish Power rep, just know how E7 works, always had it, even got it installed in a house I bought, rather than gas.0 -
SPcustomer, for the avoidance of doubt there is only one Official company representative ID on MSE. For scheduling reasons this may be used by more than one member of our staff. I will respond by e-mail to your other queries.
David“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Scottish Power. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
I have reported the entire thread to MSE, posting this so if they think any posts need to be edited SP won't be blamed. SP have actually gone up in my estimation for their calm and professional handling of the situation, regardless of the rights or wrongs which clearly I am not party to.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Hi spcustomer, I'm on the same boat, scottish power overcharged me for several months and now are avoiding making a refund of 675 pounds. I posted a thread about my problem on this website.
Their last move was sending a cheque with a lower amount, just like they did with you. I'm not going to cash this cheque because I want my full money back. I have already got in touch with 2 other people in our situation. The idea is to gather a good amount of people and then take them to court.
Will send you a private message with my email so that we can speak there or over the phone. I don't think this company is serious and I have had quite a bad experience with them, but they chicken when things get serious.
Thanks.0 -
Not only that. My landlady is renting several flats in Scotland, and 2 chinese students with the same company were overcharged 400 pounds in a year. They never knew about that and never complained. I think this is a systematic procedure among this company.0
