i love the towel cake idea but im planning on something similar for when baby is born which is only thing putting me off, - the thing is towels are practical and always are something people use

If you mean a nappy cake, don't do that either.

Not read though every post yet but we lived together for 5 years (together 7/8 before we married). One of the first thing we bought as a couple was a 'Mr & Mrs Sweetilemon' door plaque. I do think this would be a lovely gift as a married couple as its nice but useful. Cinema tickets/meal vouchers are also a lovely idea. Bedding etc was a nice gift but you have to know the couples tastes in colour scheme...I would personally avoid gifting this although I did love the bedding we recieved. Check out the wedding & anniversary board for more ideas! Vouchers are always well recieved.

I recently got married and we'd been living together for 6/7 years. The best gifts were debenhams and John Lewis vouchers - I bought new pillows and pans with them which were much needed but they're things that are nice to choose for yourself.

I don't like gifting over money or gift cards
I did ask them but I got no response as to what they want
Probably be happy with just a card but wanted to get a minding

Notanewuser what's wrong with nappy cakes?
As for towel cakes it was one of my fave gifts the way it was presented I had never seen it before and white towels are used all time in my house

Sillybilly2001 is that offer in all argos stores or online I never knew they were doing thst

It's in all Argos stores (2x 10 for 15 or 2x 20 for 30). It includes Debenhams, Next and maybe of interest to the op nandos, pizza express, cineworld, pizza hut, zizzis, ticket master and many more.

    You mean giving. ;)

A lot of people find those fake cake things really tacky and odd, and there are plenty of people who never use white towels, I don't.

Its up to you what you give (gift is a noun!) of course, and the couple should graciously accept, but if you want them to have nice new towels then a voucher for somewhere they can choose their own is ideal.

Argos have pulled this deal now for the shop gift cards. Only the restaurant and cinema cards are included now.
