You couldn't make it up! It's amazing just how many people who drink this instant dishwater think that they are drinking coffee!
Well I do love real coffee and regularly make it.
I was very suprised with the tast of Gold Blend though - It is really vety nice. There is no reason why you cannot like both? It is like wine - if you like the taste then go ahead and enjoy it - it doesn't matter whether it is cheap or expensive. Just because you think it tastes like dishwater does not mean that other people think the same, it is a very subjective thing. To infinity and beyond!0 -
My question is - which coffee tastes most similar to Nescafe Gold Blend.
I was thinking of buying several different gold blend coffees from the different superarkets and doing a blind tasting.
If anybody has done something similar or knows a coffee that tastes similar, then it would cut down the number I would need to buy for the test.
Any recommendations please ?To infinity and beyond!0 -
I can't find an instant to match real coffee, even when I splash out on the really expensive gold label types they taste yucky. Tesco Value ground is better than the best instant IMO and I will drink this if finances as tight but I usually stock up on Lidl ground when I am at the coast, it is as cheap as dirt and really tasty.Life's a beach! I used to like Nescafe Gold Blend, but we have been drinking Sainsbury's Gold Roast for several years now. They do it in huge tubs as well as glass jars which works out a tad cheaper still.0

I tend to get Douwe Edgeberts Continental GOld because although it is a similar price it is frequently on offer and the offers are much better than the gold blend ones. I pick it up either on BOGOFF or 2 for £5 (large jar - sorry don't know the size) at Morrisons. It works out cheaper this way then Morrisons equivalent. Hoever I have tried both Morrisons and Tesco's own brand and cannot recollect thinking that they were particularly bad but I didn't do a direct taste comparison. If I remember correctly teh Co-op coffee was awful.

Have you looked at the coffee thread? I'll add your question to that later.
Please come back and tell us the results of your trial

I like Necafe Gold Blend best and try to buy it when it's on offer. When I'm cutting back I buy an "own brand" (not value) gold coffee and mix it 50/50% with the Nescafe one and I can't tell the difference." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Hi Penny,
Yes I had looked at that, but as it seems that Gold Blend is one of the favourtie coffees, and I have recently discoered it, I thought I'd see if there was anyone that had found a similar one. I did think about putting this in the thread that deals with which own brands are manufactured by the big brand companies thread but decided against that too. Hope that is OK.To infinity and beyond!0 -

That would have been one on my list to taste test. Does it taste very similar to Nescafe Gold Blend? To infinity and beyond!0 -
