The Morrisons gold roast is not very nice-bought it last time I needed a jar and I am considering buying a different jar when i go shopping tonight and throwing the Morrisons one out- that's how much I hate it!0

I find the Tesco Gold Roast coffee very similar. Indeed there seem to be a swathe of Gold Blend clones and they all seem to be very close. The Tesco one is in an almost identical jar.
The one thing I have noticed is that buying more does not necessarily make it cheaper. Per 100g the 300g is more expensive than the 200g and that’s more than the 100g!
Thanks - better add Tesco to the list too!

Hi Mike,
As your thread has dropped off the first page of old stlye I've added it to the current thread on coffee brands to keep all the replies together. It would be great if you would come back and tell us the results of your experiment.

I think the taste of coffee is all very much depending on your own personal preference. My daughter loves ordinary nescafe - which I can't stand because I find it very bitter.
Somehow, as I get old, I find that more and more things contribute towards indigestion/heartburn - and bitter coffee is one of them.
I love Kenco Freeze-dried Decaff (green label) and occasionally will substitute Asda's Freeze-dried Decaff (pale blue cap) cos it ain't bad at all. But no way will I buy value coffee. I also like Asda's Fairtrade Decaff in the ground coffees (the one with a parrot on the bag).0 -
Wilkinsons have now started doing a limited range of groceries and are now the cheapest for 200g jars of Nescafe, at £1.89. Possibly a little bit of a price war with Instore/Poundstretchers?The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

We buy our coffee from Whittard of Chelsea most of the time. This is as their coffee is reasonably priced and I know a discount centre that has a store in it lol :rotfl: :T .
I buy the Puru fairtrade and organic for less than £12 for 500g and the Nicaragua for less than £11 for 500g. You can buy it in bean form or pre-ground if you wish.
It can be a bit expensive for the initial spend for the cafétier and the coffee bean grinder (if you want to buy it in bean form as it tastes fresher) but it is well worth if for the taste and how much cheaper it can work out for this rather than instant.
We find alot of the cheap coffees to not be nice at all. We even coment on Star Bucks coffee as not being good hehehe.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
I'm currently drinking Nescafe Black Gold (bought when on offer in Netto), it's very nice.
Aldi's Columbian cafetiere coffee is also very good if you're looking for ground coffee.:wave:0 -
I buy a lot of the M&S instant coffee, I find it much better priced than the big brands, and it tastes very good too. I discovered it's made by Taylors of Harrogate, so I know where it comes from and that it's a long established company who sell premium range products. I also know that they buy lots of fair trade coffee beans, and that the M&S products are all fair trade certified.
I don't have a very good view of most the big coffee companies' fair trade products, they tend to be tokenism at best, so it's nice to find good coffee that is made by a company who take fair trade seriously and don't just use it for marketing.
There are regular offers on the jars, such as buy one get one half price, and less often 100% extra free jars, but even without the offers it's normally cheaper than the big brand name products.0
