I never buy Nescafe, because of their total lack of ethics. Even their "Partners Blend" is quite obviously nothing but a publicity stunt - it came bottom of the chart in the Ethical Consumer guide.
Lidls have their own brand Fairtrade coffee - it's very nice, and quite cheap, although I have found with Lidls their price varies dramatically from store to store. We have two stores nearby - one in town, and the other a bigger new store a couple of miles out on a new housing estate. Everything in the new store seems to be between 5 -10p more expensive in the newer store, for some reason. Eg - grape juice - 68p in town, and the day after, 88p at the new shop. Very strange.

We've been using a higher priced coffee, but recently bought the store's own brand (MrS) and were quite happy with it, so will be buying that in future. Same with tea.

I will happily buy shop's own, but it has to be beans that you grind yourself. I cannot abide instant coffee, and I prefer not to have ready-ground beans, as they don't stay as fresh, and it affects the taste.

Probably I'm this picky because I like my coffee strong, black and unsweetened, and can tell if its not quite right.

coffee is the one thing i am very picky about. I dont do instant at all and my fresh coffee has to be dow egberts (sp?) however i only tend to stock up when it is on BOGOF. my mum generally finds it and gets me a couple when she is shopping (retired usually gets round 3 supermarkets a week) and i pay her when i next see her.

I don't drink coffee.. it stinks.. but I buy it for my mother and other family members.. I buy the Kenco when it is on offer.. my mother has the decaff and hubby and other family members get whatever has been on offer recemtly.. I have a red Kenco jar I frequently fill with tesco own brand coffee thoguh.. the one in the red jar..

If own brand tea bags are good enough for me.. own brand coffee is good enough for everyone else!

Value hot chocolate for the children though!

Another vote for Aldi's coffee if we have to do instant.

We both prefer the proper stuff and as we don't drink we don't mind paying a bit more. To be honest the filter mc is so easy to bang on (and was a competition prize-my hobby lol).
Even have the grinder for my kenwood rofl.

I find we use up instant really quickly as we will have 2 heaped teaspoons in a cup each as we like it strong, so no cheaper than the good stuff really.
