Yoof need a reality check

Boomers can beat the yoof at anything - from arm wrestling to pub quizzes! Yoof should step aside and let the boomers show them how it's done0

For example they go to school (which is sooo much eaiser than it used to be), go onto uni (which again is not what it used to be) then expect to have latest gadgets, beer money, holidays abroad - I honestly don't think the yoof can handle modern day life, they don't have the hard graft that the boomers had.
It's all to do with political correctness and excessive mollycoddling. I grew up at at time when teachers could hit pupils and cane them, and when fathers were 'real' fathers. Now parents just throw money at the brats to keep them from whining. Tough love is often the best type of love to give - otherwise the brats will end up as weak adults who'll be incapabable of struggling in life and give up at the slightest setback. The heroes of the Battle of Britain were brought up in schools that dished out the cane with liberal abandon. The modern generation would (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) their pants if they were asked to face a similar challenge.0 -
I remember this time when some boomers squared up to some yoof on a Saturday night in town! I have no idea why the yoof where even out as they never have any money. Anyhow, it ended in a dance off and the boomers won - the whole place was cheering and waving hands, the yoof couldn't get away fast enough0

You grew up in a world in which child abuse (both physical and sexual) was rampant but ignored. So did I. Its hardly something to crow about!0

Well sexual abuse is still pretty rampant (with no-one - especially the Police in certain areas it seems - doing little about it).
Most of us who grew up with proper discipline, both at home and at school, which may or may not have included a slap on the legs or backside, will probably fall about laughing at the suggestion is was "child abuse"!
Including reasonable and well-meant parental, teacher (or indeed Police - who were capable of delivering a clip round the ear!) discipline in the "child abuse" category is just another example of the ridiculous PC and over-the-top health and safety that has resulted in the number of uncontrolled yobs on the streets today.0 -

On the contrary. Boomers are completely useless. There are hardly any boomers left where I work now because they were all made redundant - the dead wood had to be cut out because of the current economic climate. I can understand why this happened. When you need to make a business more efficient do you get rid of the young, enthusiastic and capable employees or the old fat bloke in the corner who spends most of his time surfing the Saga website for his next holiday? The verdict seems clear to me.0 -
What is this thread some kind of competition where the objective is to come across as haughty and self-important as possible?
The difference between a snob (or wannabe) and someone with a 'proper' upbringing is that the latter would have been taught as a child not to be so derisive of others and their choices.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. lol and I remember me and some other yoofs going to a work pub quiz. When it came to the music and picture round, we owned the oldies!..... but we didn't stand around afterwards shouting and pointing. Thats just bad sport

You seem to be mistaking money's statements of 'the other day this happened' etc for stories based on reality. In his world he regularly hosts breakdown parties for home-owners where they call out and denigrate renters like what happens in the hood (or so he's told). The forum becomes infinitely better when you filter (ignore) the people who are fantasists or trolls.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. GeorgeHowell wrote: »Actually I think many of today's youth know that the baby boomer generation had a better time than they do.
The boomers pretty much invented modern youth culture in the sense of it being significantly differentiated from that of the older generations. The boomers' parents were probably shocked by some of the cultural changes they witnessed among their children. But looking at today's youth the boomer reaction is mostly a shrug and a "been there, seen it, done it" (though I must admit if there is truth in the alleged prevalence of so-called sexting and similar practices among teenagers, including under-age ones, that is shocking)
Boomers also had the advantage of generally not being spoiled by their parents and mostly growing up to know the value of money and the need to live within means. But in some ways they have messed up in bringing up their own children by not passing on these traits, making life too easy for them as they grew up, and producing a generation that to a significant extent does not seem to know how to deny itself anything.
Youth employment is at the highest rate it has been for years. Inequality is the highest it has been since the war. A university degree, which is now the bare minimum for a job filing, costs in excess of £30,000 in tuition fees alone and in some areas a small house costs ten times average income.
In addition to this rates of depression and chronic mental illness is at a higher incidence amongst children and young adults than in any time in recorded history.
Yet you continue to paint some quasi reality which exists entirely in your own twisted thinking, where younger people are all living the life of Riley and somehow to blame for their own misfortunes.
Do you actually know any young people? A single solitary one? Because I actually do and they are not living the life of hedonistic parties you seem to think they are.
Frankly your own bitterness and envy oozes out of everything you write. You detest young people for their youth as you clearly never had an ounce of fun in your own.
Wouldnt it be dreadful if someone quoted this so he could read it?0 -
Evidence that these are the same who take gap years and are '!!!!ing it up the wall'?
Strong enough evidence to make such a sweeping generalisation?
I took a gap year and my first house is a terrace. Proves nothing.
Some young people today are amazing. I know, I teach them.
Bit like that sweeping generalisation that the 'boomers' have taken it all from the young.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0
