6 AF days and 3/4 SNC. Had a shock this afternoon. While I set the alarm on my car and my 2 kids went into the park right by my side, my daughter scootered down a steep path and fell off hitting her head on the concrete path. She looks like she's been battered. What is worse is I didn't see her fall as I was double-checking I had set the alarm and parked right by the park gate and in that time she had already fallen. This would have sent me straight to the fridge for a lager sedative, but somehow I managed to calm myself down without booze. I think that all those AF days thank God prepared me for a really bad day like today and I wouldn't have had all those AF days without you all. Thankyou everyone because your support is helping me to change my thoughts and behaviour. Thankyou so so much.

I think it's great that we are able to prove ourselves that we CAN handle stressful situations without the need for alcohol. I used to think alcohol was a 'friend', like a comfort blanket, when really for me, it was controlling and relied on me being dependent on it.
Almost like someone who offers their help to you, when really they are secretly glad you can turn to them as they will use it to their advantage, if that makes sense.0 -

Hi chaps. I decided to make a new start in 2013...
I've been on the forum before with so many false starts (getting to 6 AFD's and then getting drunk at the weekend) that I thought I'd wait for a bit and hit the forum running, so to speak.
So...last beer was on New Years Eve 2012 and that puts me at 37 consecutive AFD's so far.
Plus, been cycling to work, doing a bit of gym work every other night, started running a bit in the park. Knocked the snacks on the head, eating fresh fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, tons of veg and lean meat / fish for lunch, small portions at teatime, loads of fruit and veg to pick at if I get hungry, only eating if I'm hungry (if it's lunchtime and I'm not hungry, I won't eat - if it's between mealtimes and I'm hungry, I'll eat). Stopped drinking the rubbish coffee from the works machines and have lots of green tea or water instead....

6th February 2013 - 19 stone 6 pounds.
Feel absolutely amazing.
I'm going for 100 AFDs, and I'm going to reward myself with a beer on April 12th. So there.0 -
41, sorry about your daughter's fall, I hope your shakiness has passed and I hope she isn't too bruised.
Well done for everyone's resolve staying strong.
Well, some fruitful filing has revealed a pension policy document that could be very handy. If it's the one I think it is, I was paying £90 a month into it for over a decade then dropped it to £60 a month for another 8 years, all this being in the 1980/90s. Can't wait to find out if it is!
Still got another 5 hours worth of filing, however I think I've got most of the paperwork to complete the thing I've been putting off. That can be filled in tomorrow, God willing, and if it all works out I'll be able to pay off £35k of DH's mortgage, and buy myself a newish car.
I'm semi-celebrating with a cup of tea. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Wowser, Grey Pilgrim, that's fabulous! Welcome to our very supportive forum, I reckon you're an inspiration. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0

Cheers Satch. I'm staggered by how quick the weight is dropping off. I'm still yearning for a beer...I think my record during all my adult life is about 50 consecutive days. But I feel strong this time. I even got a pack of beer for my birthday from the lads at work, and it's been sitting in my bottom drawer. See it every day and think - "you're not going to win, you ******, I can resist your bubbly goodness for another month or two..."0

That's brilliant, well done you! I've lost 1.5 inches on my waist and hoping to tone up a bit more since knocking the alcohol on the head.
And welcome to the group, everyone is really supportive here0
