41 Well done for resisting. But why do you want one (not what's caused you to want one, but why will a lager make the situation better)?

hi GP, nice to see you back. Are you still a mad keen cyclist?

Howdy Gein, I certainly am - although I changed jobs and now cycle in as much as I can (16 mile round trip) so I don't really feel like doing many long ones at the weekend (butt needs time to cool down at weekends)...although I have got a 400 mile ride lined up around the lochs in Scotland in August...need to get my !!! in training for that and get up some hills to build my legs up a bit.

Off for a run now though...it's belting down outside and I'm having to use all my willpower to put my trainers on and leave the house...
  • I want a drink because Thursday is my weakest night of the week, and I feel like a cosy night in like I used to have on my own with the kids in front of the TV. At the moment I have a massive soccer sports mug of tea and a box of lindor chocolates which I have just started eating. Really want something but don't know what, feel like I have a hole inside which needs to be filled. Don't normally feel so desparate but never achieved first 6 days of a month AF maybe that's the only reason I haven't drunk as I don't want to much up my first week of the month and I've set myself an AF month target, I don't want to cave, I'm really trying my best, damn this addiction it is such a pain, it is so cunning and it's got me in its grip. Trying to stay in the moment instead of looking at the clock all the time. Why am I craving tonight? Please let this feeling pass. I hope my higher power is listening.

41, It sounds like you're going through a rough time, but remember that alcohol won't make you happy (otherwise the more people drink, the happier they would be, which we all know from experience isn't the case).

Inebriation does tend to temporarily block out a problem from your mind, but it will still be there in the morning (made doubly worse by the dehydration and guilt!). The question to ask is, why when you feel so rubbish would you want to make the situation even worse by drinking alcohol? It's an illusion that you'll feel better after a drink.

  • I'm not feeling rubbish, I'm not feeling anything I can think that would make me want a drink, but I still want one. I'm stuffed with chocolate now so I feel sick I know it's not the answer but hate feeling out of control. So hopefully this will end in another AF day, the craving is passing I drank a massive cup of tea too. Thanks for your reply, it is helping me.

There's nothing that can't be solved with a sit down and a good cup of tea

7 AFDs for February and 4 SNCs for the week.
  • Figtree, thank God for you.
I think I know why I want a drink, the DWP sent me a letter today saying they were stopping my ESA on 18/7 and I knew this but now I'm in panic mode as I am still ill. Also my daughter had an accident yesterday and now that I know she is ok it's starting to sink in what actually happened yesterday as I was on auto-pilot to get through it. I am so bloated and do not feel like a drink now. Why did I panic so much? Must have been an anxiety attack, usually I end up panicking and crying but now I'm on anti-depressants maybe this is the way it's going to present itself. Anyway that half hour to an hour has passed and so has that awful feeling. Thankyou Figtree xx

Hi all, 7 AFD for me too please Shaggy.

41, I feel for you - I had terrible 'pangs' later this afternoon of REALLY wanting a drink. I felt edgy and irritable. Not sure where the feelings came from though. Like you, I have had some chocolate and ate a big dinner which seems to have helped. I think maybe I was more hungry and I do get irritable when hungry, but I don't know why I thought about alcohol :undecided

Well done on staying strong. I think I am about to top up my chocolate with a hot chocolate :o
