41 you are doing really well, and all of the things you are putting in place appear to be working so keep at it :T

One of things I found hard was not to beat myself up too much about things in the past. Just before I stopped drinking towards the end of last year, I had loads of things whirring round my mind about the 'mess' I was in and mentally punishing myself for having got like that. My OH said there is no point in beating yourself up, you just have to concentrate that energy into moving forward.

And it sounds like you are doing that so well done hun :)

One thing I wanted to say which has been going round my head is that, when I stop and think about it, I am ok with not drinking. I feel much more 'free', as though I am now the one in control.

However, it is some other people who seem to have the problem with me not drinking, and I feel this little twinge of pressure. And then I have these conversations in my head about justifying my decision, when actually I am ok with not drinking

Why can't other people be ok with that? I am not a different person, I am just me and will continue to be that way instead of ending up a wreck when I go out.

Finding this one a struggle. It's like I have to physically stop, tell my mind to stop thinking, and remind myself that I am fine with this and all this anxiety is actually other people's :wall:

hi GP, nice to see you back. Are you still a mad keen cyclist?

:wave:exacty what she said! Good Luck.

I am planning to be AF today. I did drink yesterday (planned) but not to excess.

I like your plan 41 I use the 'straight for the kettle' technique myself. It works particularly well at this time of the year when I psych myself up by telling myself how comforting a hot cuppa will be.

hey everyone. Been a while since I have been on here - did well at giving up the drink for a few months to "recalibrate" some time back but need to start cutting down again now. Have done well in terms of losing weight (2 stone - just half a stone to go!) and getting fit, and now the final part of the keeping healthy puzzle is to drink less than I am currently doing.
So I am going to try and have some AFDs during the week and take it from there. Need to ask what the other acronym means - SNCs or something? Sorry cant remember now what it is!! Will figure out my target once I've looked at my diary for remainder of this month as have quite a few social things on.... Back in a bit!

OK, I'm up for 10 AFDs between now and end of the month. Have not had one so far this month.
I really need to spend less on drink, even though we buy those 3 bottles for £10 deals at Asda we get through them far too quickly and don't really "enjoy" or savour them properly... Feels like just habit. Like the g&t/sherry when I get in from work and before dinner (during which we will have a bottle of wine between us).
I heard someone say on the radio how they were sick and tired of waking up sick and tired and that's why they gave up the alcohol. I dont want to give it up - just want to enjoy it when I drink it but only drink it fairly occasionally rather than through daily habit....

I found that buying alcohol on those deals meant we'd get through more wine too.

I really admire people if they can just stick to the occasional drink. That was to be my aim first of all, but having been honest with myself I don't think that is possible with me. Once I get a taste for it (usually after one glass) then that is it :(

    7 AFD, please Shaggy. x
  • I'm really dying for a drink. Trying to remember that when I have a drink I mess up my month. I could murder a bottle of lager though, I am trying not to give in, I only want one but don't want to mess up February like I messed up January, I know in the morning I will think it wasn't worth it.
