The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 12

Hi all
I have been reading through the start and last few pages of this thread an think it's great that you all give each other such support, it's inspirational.
I think i would like to join you but two things are putting me off. I don't know where or how to start!!! And two, I think you need to be honest to make this work and there could be a lot of private stuff. I'm sure a few family and work mates know my name and would hate to think they would be able to see what i was saying - how do you deal with that?
:hello:welcome to our lovely, supportive thread.
There are a number of ways to get started. You can come up with a target number of days you'd like to be AF until the end of September out of the 8 left or you could just take it a day at a time (target free) and chalk them up as you go. When you've decided put it in a post and from then on simply post as often as you can with the number you've achieved, preferably in colour and in bold so that Shaggy picks it out and updates your score on the list. I'd suggest starting from today but if you want you could start at the beginning of October when we'll all be starting afresh with new monthly targets.
As for the confidentiality thing, I think you can re-register with a new user name that nobody in RL would recognise.
I'm pleased to say that I've just been for an impromptu pub lunch with friends and drunk fizzy water!:T so I'm calling in really early today
9 AFDs please Shaggy.
sukey, all I can say is that I only had a very little to drink after driving home on Saturday whereas before joining the thread I could easily have downed a bottle without it touching the sides.;)
Good to see you back winebox:) Like you, I always hope that those who used to post are still on the wagon, but I do have my concerns. Pip dropped in a little while ago and I know she's still well in control.0 -
20 AFDs tonight0

All the best

Good afternoon!
(GC that was supposed to be a row of congratulatory clapping things - didn't work!)
Well it's a long time since I was sober at this time of day - usually on to bottle # 2 by now....helped by my daughter having a dentist appt after school; town is a 12 mile round trip & we're not on a bus route but then again I've previously had "a couple" at lunchtime thinking I'll be OK by 4pm.....how STUPID!! Apart from the shame, to lose my licence would be a disaster, you can't live out here with no car.
Anyway, today won't be AF as I have a friend coming round later but I don't want to tot up AF days, just to learn to exercise control, so if I can last until 7pm without a drink, & then not carry on after she's left I'll be absolutely delighted.
tbh any day that I don't open that 2nd bottle is a success for me....& maybe I'll tighten up on that later.
And as Alex comments....£££££££!! I don't drink any old rubbish you know!! I'm not working at the mo so really shouldn't have chardonnay listed as the greatest household expense.......
Hope everyone's behaving as they wish to today. Good luck.0 -
Thanks maman,
So I'll make a start by saying that out of the 8 days left in September I will aim for 5 AF days starting today so that's 1/5 (I can't seem to make the colour thing work but I'll get to that).
OH just added the AF days already done in September as 9 as far as we can remember so that's not too bad.
Hope everyone is having a good day and thanks for the thread.0 -
Evening! AF for me today but I have to say that it is partly because I am feeling ill - a bit fluey.
It's good you have a definate goal winebox (don't open 2nd bottle) - could you engineer it to only ever have one bottle in the house, so that will be your limit?Trying to keep in budget.

Despite a jam packed day with work, I've not succumbed to temptation (OK perhaps in part due to the "reminder" Mrs. K. gave me), so I'm calling this an AF day.
Feeling really rather pleased with myself this evening.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Morning all,
AF for me yesterday so that is 7/10 - might just make it to target this month
Have a good day everyone0 -
12AF please Shaggy0
