Evening! AF for me today but I have to say that it is partly because I am feeling ill - a bit fluey.

It's good you have a definate goal winebox (don't open 2nd bottle) - could you engineer it to only ever have one bottle in the house, so that will be your limit?

Hi gien - hope you're feling better today!

Good idea re the one at a time in the house except that my petrol costs would go through the roof! Nearest supermarket is 6 miles away so not really practical to troll over there every day; tbh whether it's in the house or not isn't the issue - if I'm that determined to have a drink I will, which means I end up having to make a special journey or I walk to the pub & buy there (££££) so I tend to stick to bulk-buying what I like when it's on offer. Very MSE :money:........:o

btw I made it sound yesterday like I'll leap into the car in any old state -I've NEVER driven whilst drunk or even slightly "squiffy" but sometimes I wonder if I did get stopped - even if for something not my fault - it might be borderline on the limit so for quite a long time now have adopted a zero tolerance approach if driving later in the day.

Rescued by my daughter again for today as she has the orthodontist after school! If I can get through dinner (which we have quite early) I'm safe. It's the pre-dinner peckish time I'm at my most vulnerable (3pm onwards!).

Yesterday was not AF but I'm really pleased (tho never smug...) I hung on til my friend arrived @ 7pm, no question of opting out as she turned up with a bottle of celebratory fizz after waiting for months on something, but we shared it & that's all I had. If only I could always be like that, but hey, baby steps!

Aiming for AF today though :D

Sorry, I "talk" too much.....good luck to all of you for today x

Oh no you don't that's what the thread is for!! :Ton being very controlled yesterday and good luck with tonight's AFness. I completely agree about the mse creeping in when buying wine. I try to buy wine on offer (currently just coming to the end of a load I bought when Sainsbury's had 25% off and free delivery;)). And I'll only buy a minimum of 6 to get my 5% off.

I'm calling in now too:A I'm out tonight so having an early supper. This is massive progress for me as I used to not post until after 11 p.m. as I couldn't trust myself.

    10 AFDs please Shaggy.

That's target met for me:D so any more this month will be a bonus.

Congratulations Maman :T on reaching your target. I am hoping for an AF tonight but I am not as confident as you to call it in now - I will wait to see what the evening brings but fingers-crossed ;)

Winebox - please carry on 'talking' as much as you like :)
  • Well done to both of you!

Giving an early call - I might do one of those myself.

I hope you're all good - been lurking but not posting much.

    :)

I must confess I'm quite liking this calling it in early idea (sorry Sukeyboo).

So tonights an AF night for me too ;)

    Hugs and waves to all.

    :)

:hello:welcome to our lovely, supportive thread.

There are a number of ways to get started. You can come up with a target number of days you'd like to be AF until the end of September out of the 8 left or you could just take it a day at a time (target free) and chalk them up as you go. When you've decided put it in a post and from then on simply post as often as you can with the number you've achieved, preferably in colour and in bold so that Shaggy picks it out and updates your score on the list. I'd suggest starting from today but if you want you could start at the beginning of October when we'll all be starting afresh with new monthly targets.

As for the confidentiality thing, I think you can re-register with a new user name that nobody in RL would recognise.

Good to see you back winebox:) Like you, I always hope that those who used to post are still on the wagon, but I do have my concerns. Pip dropped in a little while ago and I know she's still well in control.

Aw thanks maman. Lovely to see WB too :A

Great advice up there from Maman to AuntyCat.
I've not set a target online but I do have a good think about whether today is a 'drinking' day.

I also don't keep alcohol in the house - it sings to me from the cupboards, so if I want some wine/etc on a 'drinking' day I have to go and get it - if its not a 'drinking day' then I'll put off heading out until either the time has passed or I go a bit later and buy a smaller bottle.

Keep at it - its a great place in here.

I also record my AF days and my units on my phone calendar - just for me - lets me see how much my units are and if I should be canny. And, I avoid shopping at tea time when a wine bottle often leaps into the trolley. I find their behaviour less 'feral' in the mornings/lunchtimes.

Goodluck - tis true only you can change your habits. If you know your 'triggers' then on the days you fancy an AF day try and avoid them.

    :)

Easier said than done sometimes. But, this lot are proper lovely.

Setting limits is good too - like just the one bottle.

    :A

I should have of course reminded myself of this advice at the weekend when on my non-hen-hen-dooooo.

I did drink a bit more than I'd wanted too - but the evenings were long and much water/juice interspersed the nattering.

I can tell you the wedding fizz is lovely however. As it had a wee road test. Although I know I'm not planning on drinking now for the rest of this month as I've done my 'drinking days' quota.

I'll bet the cupboards and carpets in this house will be very clean by the end of the month. And I will have read most of the books on my 'to read' shelf.

Never be in charge of a book whilst under the influence - it doesnt' work well!

    :)

  • Evening all, thought I'd creep back in again (its been a long time). Hope everyone is doing ok.

I want to do Stoptober and last time I tried my wine habit went crazy, so this time I intend to tame the wine and perhaps I can keep the non-smoking going. I'm never one for going easy on myself.

I am going to be AF today, decided as soon as I got up this morning (bitter lemon on the ready - don't worry I don't keep 'shorts' in the house so have nothing to mix it with). In fact the only wine I have is a glass of some vile stuff left over from the weekend - tastes even worse than it smells. Went to town earlier and managed to ignore all wine aisles :)

Lets see if I can at least keep school nights AF.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Hi pen, good to see you again.:)

If I'm reading this right, when's the big day pip? We've been waiting for this for a long, long time.;)
