The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 12

Thank you
As you know mine is mainly money saving. However, I have on numerous occasions been told by my doctors to cut down due to depression. Whilst I don't seem to be getting any better health wise, I'm saving quite a lot of money, hopefully the health benefits will come.
Don't forget that the feeling of achievement and being in control is a huge one!:T
Physical health benefits may be slower to show up (except obvious like hangovers) but psychologically the dream world that alcohol promises is just that!
Hope you have a good week alex, see you back on the wagon tomorrow.;)0 -
Well hello thread!
I'm going to re-join tomorrow (or is this me doing it now?...).....it's well over a year since I was here & I am STILL on the ** (too embarrassed to actually spell it out but the number of stars is a clue) bottles of wine a day, every day, it never changes. I'm sure I've posted an almost identical post to this many moons ago, that a teeny crumb of comfort is that I never need more, or turn to stronger drinks, but even so 20 alcohol units a DAY??!! I completely fail to understand why I carry on with this (£££££).
Amazing (LUCKY) I'm not seriously ill by now.
Anyways, sorry, a rather self-indulgent post, I'll sharpen up my sparkling wit & repartee before I re-join "properly". Tomorrow.....
Hi to maman & shaggy, I've only glanced over the last couple of pages so sorry if I've not acknowledged someone else I should recognise. Are Jo1972, Lurkio, YM, GC Miss P & all the other "old crowd" still around? If not I hope that's because they've slayed their demon & no longer have the monkey on their back.
Huh? Where do I get this s**t from :rotfl:
Already feels good to be back in the fold, tho' feeling sheepish (geddit?) wb x
Hi WB - glad to 'see' you again.
I'm a lurker but much quieter than I was in the past. The older I get, the more I realise that I don't know about (and it's not my business to comment on) other peoples' drinking.
All I know is my story - and it's pretty simple.
When I had a drink, I'd want another one. Even though a part of me was saying "Do NOT have anymore- you need to go home, etc" I'd stay for another and another.
I didn't always get drunk when I drank, but it was never in control. I sometimes got drunk when I really didn't want to. That shows me I'm powerless of alcohol.
I always said (to myself and others) that I was sorry for getting drunk, and that I wouldn't do it again.
I now try and stand by the mantra "Don't say sorry. Change." I do fall short of that frequently however.
I celebrated 6 yrs of continuous sobriety in August. I still work on my sobriety, and the joy of that is that with the work I have no desire to drink. Thus I can go through life not drinking one day at a time.
All the best

Morning everyone,
Welcome to all the new arrivals & returnees that have appeared over the weekend :hello:- nice to meet you all.
Alex - well done for managing your first AF Sunday in many years - I can't remember the last time I had one of those
Maman - I've done exactly the same as you many times - I stay off the drink all evening as I am driving and then come home and think I 'deserve' a glass (or two) or wine as I have been good all evening - why do we do that to ourselves
No AF's for me this weekend - but back to it today0 -
just popping in to say hello! No AFD to report, to my shame.
Welcome back Winebox, and GC. Pretty much all the people you listed no longer post here, not sure if they are still on MSE either.
Miss Piggy did pop in for a while a few months back though.Trying to keep in budget.

ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Hi all
I have been reading through the start and last few pages of this thread an think it's great that you all give each other such support, it's inspirational.
I think i would like to join you but two things are putting me off. I don't know where or how to start!!! And two, I think you need to be honest to make this work and there could be a lot of private stuff. I'm sure a few family and work mates know my name and would hate to think they would be able to see what i was saying - how do you deal with that?0
