Good luck to everyone in reaching their May targets.

10 years ago I was in a desperate place drinking.I finally threw in the towel on the 23rd May 2003.Best thing I ever did.

I never thought the day would come that I didn't think about drinking,or buying it .Today alcohol plays no part in my life .It is OK for others but not for me.
    Sobriety delivers everything Alcohol promised.

Alcohol free since May 23rd 2003.:D

    So far in 2013 I've done Jan(31), Feb(27), Mar(29) and April(28). A total of 115 days + 1 for May. 116 total in 2013 and only 5 days of alcohol :)
  • Well, my dad is in a nursing/residential home as when the CPN and social worker turned up he was in a hell of a state. Been crying since 3pm when I found out. I miss him and I hope he doesn't think I don't love him. I love him more now than ever and I can see his face all the time. Alcohol has not even entered my mind, 2 paracetamols and water however for my pounding headache and broken heart.
1 AF day for my dad.

Tesco Credit Card £250 £25 DD 0% for next 10 months.

Barclaycard Initial £241.45 0% for next 7 mths.

Oh 41, my heart goes out to you, it really does. I hope the respite helps your dad, he must have found it hard with your mum being ill too. My mum's the same age as your dad, and I'm worrying about her. She was coughing whilst I was on the phone to her tonight, and now I'm worrying about pneumonia!

So glad you're not finding it necessary to find solace in a bottle, because it can't be found there.

If I can borrow a work laptop I'll be able to "work from home" on Friday. That will allow me to travel to Liverpool on Thursday evening and be with my mum when she has blood tests and dressings changed on Friday morning. My manager knows she will get at least 8 hours worth of work out of me, whether I do it on Friday or Saturday. If I can't get a laptop I'll be taking a days holiday.

1 AFD to start May off. May is my favourite month, not just because it contains my birthday. "Bring flowers of the rarest bring blossoms the fairest, from garden and woodland and hillside and dale".
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Oh 41 poor you. At least your dad is getting the care he needs. Have a big hug and many congratulations at staying AF during all this stress.

I'm pleased to say I have made a start to May already. I was tempted as we went out to lunch unexpectedly. It was glorious in the sunshine but I stuck to fizzy water as I needed to drive and didn't console myself with a drink when I got home.

    1 AFD please Shaggy.

Fought off the demons last night but oh boy did I want a drink. Even sent a text to OH saying as much, hoping he would put me off and he replied with 'wait for me!' So much for not drinking in the week! However, I managed to resist in the end so clocked up 1 AF day for May. I'm glad because I would have felt on a slippery slope right from the start.

Well done to all you resisters, especially 41, whom I admire for the abstinance during such difficult times. What strength! I really hope the respite care for your dad is beneficial for all of you.

Barney1979 - wow! 5 days of alcohol this year? That's impressive. I don't think (with the exception of pregnencies) I have done that in the last 30 odd years. Your liver must be singing and dancing.

Lilith - congrats on the exam result. Merit eh? What are you studying?

Imagnu - new month, new start. I will be interested to see how an AF May goes. I would love to commit to that too but I know I would panic and struggle and so am trying to control it. I would like to have one AF month in the year but I fear I am not as brave as you.

Shaggy - I hope you are coping with things and I am really grateful for all your hard work on this thread. What a help you are to all of us.

    Kind regards
    Slowdown:)

Thanks Slowdown - I'm studying psychology - you'd think I'd be able to figure my own mind out eh?! :rotfl:

1 AFD for me for May please Shaggy. It's such a nice day, it's days like this I really don't want to be in work. If it's like this at the weekend OH and I are going to go to the coast for a bit of sea air :)

41 - hope your dad is ok, please look after yourself, you deserve it ((hugs)).

    Hi All

Well I had wine last night, but it was included in my target so I am still on track, was having a wee glass while watching the Masterchef final.........which is tonight,:rotfl:Did I pour the wine back in the bottle & keep for tonight, did I what. I am not planning another drink until Saturday & for once that thought is not terrifying me, I am actually looking forward to Friday & watching DH getting merry whilst I drive :rotfl:

41 - Hugs for you hun, you really are having a time of it & hats off to you for staying AF, your dad will be well looked after I am sure x
Satchmo - Hope you get to WFH rather than have to use up a holiday, hope your mum is ok x
