Gutted just typed all this in once, only to lose it when having to log in again! :(

Anyway I will give the sort version now as have no time to write in full.

I wanted to get my SoA started as I have been saying for days I will do it. I am not sure If I have done this correctly but I will update later today when I have more time. I wanted to add a bit of background info as you will see I am paying rent and have a mortgage. When I started contracting in London I didn't know if it was going to work out so kept my house vacant so that I could move back north if it didn't work out. However it did and I carried on living and working in London but not doing anything with the house. Yes I know what a waste, I have been told that by family ever since. So before christmas I decided to sell up and use any money left over to look for somewhere down here. I went to ask HSBC for help to do this and was met with a stony response. As you will see I am paying all the associated costs with the house and the flat which it what is sinking me. I have reached a point where I NEED to sort out the house as it is a millstone around my neck. But one step at a time! Below I have taken my figures from online banking and added my comments to it. I am not sure if this is the correct way to set out the SoA but I just wanted to do 'something' and I have been a bit overwhelmed by all the info here and am trying not to stress too much about all these debts and new ones being created as we speak.

Need to focus before I write an essay! Ok, so..

    32

So seeing it in B/W is scary, I know not as scary as others.. I am going to add more detail later but at least I have made a start. The main things needed to be dealt with are the rent and my tax issues as I am on BR? tax and am not paying enough I think. I am going to see if I can get an appointment next week and I am going to email Agents today about rent. I should get paid on the 7th but it will be down as I needed to take time off. They are really supportive although I haven't told them about not being well. I was going to write loads more but I need to go to work to be able to pay off these debts to will check back later. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Although it seems a mountain I hadn't realised how my depression had let things get so bad, but at least things are now starting to move ...slowly... :) and its the weekend soon.

As a P.S. I didnt make it to the docs yesterday but I am going to go on Monday morning to sign up and feeling bit less concerned about it.

Have a good day everyone :)

  • I could be wrong but I think there is a lot there you don't need to be paying. Your house in the north- it's unoccupied right?
7,8&9- find out what these are, expect most 2 if not 3 are unnecessary.
11- this is huge, check comparison sites for cheaper provider
12- if I'm correct in my presumption that this property is unoccupied then contact haringey and tell them this! I'm pretty sure you get 100% discount for first 6 months a property is unoccupied and then 50% discount after this. Tell them London is your main home now (you have evidence of council tax bill for London property) and has been since ddmmyy- they'll back date you to when your cirumstances changed so will get a rebate.
    13. Are you living alone? If so, let them know this- you'll get 25% off for single person discount.
14, 16 & 17- can you ask them to stop these supplies as now unoccupied? (I don't know if that's good advice but def seems wrong paying that much when not using)

Will come back later with further observations. If you're struggling to do things, def speak to your doctor. Could you pick one thing to do today and do it- one phone call perhaps?

Good luck, my heart goes out to you. Managing debt is hard enough without depression hanging over you. Good luck.
    Total money owed: [STRIKE]31/07/11- £17,877[/STRIKE], LBM - 14/10/12 :j, 01/06/13 - £0 DEBT FREE!!!!
New challenge- save an extra £5000 from non-salary -£1600 (32%)

Well Done Tom on the progress so far. I am not going to comment on your SOA as there are far wiser heads than mine to do that but just gettting it down in black and white must have taken a lot of effort and courage.

    Useful trick for the future.

Once you have typed the post, before clicking "Submit Reply", right click on your typing and click "Select All", then repeat, clicking "Copy", or hold down Ctrl and press C.

That has copied the message to the Clipboard.

If, on clicking "Submit Reply", the message doesn't post, open a new posting window, right click inside the window and click "Paste", or click in the window, hold down Ctrl and press V.

The message will be placed in the new window, ready to try submitting again.

Same trick works if you want to stop half way through typing a post, and come back to it later.

Select and Copy what you have typed, then Paste it into a new Notepad Document, and save it.
  • Have you considered renting the house out, at least for the time being?
Virgin Broadband £38.90 - only need bb as no TV and Tel

That would be high, including telephone. For only BB, it's

Use Uswitch to find a better deal.

All the things you have labelled "not using" and "can cancel", cancel now.

It's crazy to be paying for things you don't use.

Ok so I have made it through the week! :) and am now trying to deal with things brought up in the thread. I am going to do a proper online SoA once I have collected as much info as I can and repost here.

I found a letter from British Gas yesterday stating they are applying for warrant to change meter or disconnect supply. Thankfully I have opened it before it has gone too far so that is a major step forward. There is a number to call but I wanted to work out what to say as I don't and can't promise anything at the moment. They are going to apply for it on 12th Feb so I want to get this sorted out as soon as possible as know the landlords won't want this.

On a different note I received a mail from the estate agents today stating:-

    Hi Tom,

I understand you are trying to resolve the issue with bank.
But unfortunately, if we do not receive the balance by the end of business on Monday the 4th of February, we will be serving you notice on the 5th of February to vacate the property.

    Regards,

The balance of £625 outstanding. I have looked at advice on here and have seen help at Shelter and am going to follow that up later. I am also considering what I may have to do if I do have to move out.

I *am* going to go to doctors surgery on Monday as I feel this needs to be sorted as soon as possible.. as well I am going to call debt line as need to prepare myself

I am trying to keep positive and the momentum going and am certainly making those first small steps thanks to 'your' help

On a different note I am going for a walk in Kent tomorrow with friends so hopefully weather ok and good to get out into the country.. Onwards and upwards
    Regards
    Tom

If you are in an assured shorthold tenancy, or were in one which has rolled over into a periodic tenancy, they have to give a minimum of two months notice, from a rent day. they do not need a reason. You will not be out straight away, even if they do give notice on 5th Feb. Glad to hear you are following up with Shelter as they can give specialist advice from their helpline. Good luck and keep strong, there is nothing that cannot be sorted out.

Hi Bob, as the house has been uninhabited for a long period of time, it would need some money spent on it to make it rentable. Also I am reluctant to have another pressure on me at the moment, but I do take your point and in fact I have been thinking about this, this morning. Given that I am now accruing missed payments and I have one CCJ against me how would that effect future applying for a mortgage? so maybe it would be better to keep it on and rent out.

I have a Virgin BB package that includes BB, TV and Telephone its called the Medium package I believe. All I want really it the BB, i have thought about a dongle but have heard they may not be that good..

Thanks for that Harrysdad, yes I am hoping that I can get monies sorted out with back log and next months rent and keep the flat on as I like it here.. :) but its not cheap..

  • A letting company would deal with all the pressure.

Some even guarantee rent every month.

EE can do you unlimited downloads, and unlimited evening & weekend calls to UK landlines, for £16-50 pm.

have thought about a dongle but have heard they may not be that good

I've been using a 3 Dongle for over 3 years and, while the speed isn't fantastic, and download limits aren't brilliant (I get 3GB for £15), it's enough for me.

Of course, it depends what the signal is like where you live.
