    Hi Tom,

Just wanted to say we found the tax people pretty good to deal with. My dh owed just over £2000 and they let us pay it back at a £100 a month until it was settled, no problems and no hassle from them. Don't be scared of contacting them Julie

  • You have been given some good advice about TVL never ever TRUST them and remember no matter what they say just ignore them and DO NOT SIGN anything.

They are just sales people who get a bonus for selling TVL's if they come to your door just close it and ignore.

    Best of luck.

Yes I have taken on board the advice re TVL and have disconnected my TV appliances and am now only going to what TV on catchup, which is pretty much what I was doing before. I am going to cancel VirginM package and look. I am going to try and open a CO-OP Basic ac

Thx chevalier and Julie, hopefully I find a friendly soul at HMRC towers.

Just one quick question, how should I upload my SoA as I am not allowed to add files? I could just copy and paste from my spreadsheet?

    Many thanks

    Hi Tom

You will find that most people on the site have debt problems and most can give advice on the different ways to deal with it. I myself have a lot of debt and I contacted the national debt line. They gave me free advice about my credit cards and I am now paying just £1 per month until I can get straight. So it could be worth giving them a call they may be able to help you see the end of the tunnel.
    Good luck

    Thanks layla,

I am sorting out my SoA so that I can deal with this knowing what I am talking about when I have to talk to the various entities. But thx for the advice and adding to my advice list.

I think your offer is probably appreciated, but in the case of tax affairs, the OP is very much better off going to speak directly with an advisor in a drop in centre. They will be able to understand the situation and guide him properly. Plus, there's some come-back if the advice he receives is wrong in some way. If he follows your advice, which may or may not be right, he lays himself open to prosecution for his mistakes since HMRC are unlikely to accept the excuse that 'some person on the internet told me to do this'....etc.
