  • I've been done for £350 on 23/1/2012 by these so and so's..

Reported to First Direct who are investigating.
  • I checked my Tesco Credit card statement today and I also have been "done" for £611.00 by Tech Giants on 20th Jan. Tesco's have been great, cancelled my card immediately and reassured me that I won't be liable for any of the money.
Would like to know how they got my details though and who is behind this fraud??

Just checked my Tesco statement £599 paid to Tech Giants, Tesco having technical difficultys so i have to call back in an hour. i hope they are as helpfull to me. Why are banks not warning people?

Please verify all information for yourself.

Try reading posts 2 and 3 - the company concerned are in Walsall not London.

I've reported your post for containing director's personal details which is against forum rules.
  • Thanks for alerting me. I have removed it.

Don't think it was that company anyway. Nowhere near Walsall.
  • Yep Done for £202 transaction initiated on 19th Jan on my cahoot card. Interesting as this card mostly dormant and only used for buying train tickets from trainline.com online. Has been used for petrol once in 12 months.
2 years ago i was stung in almost exactly the same way, again via an online train ticket company - I am certain that details are being scooped and sold on via on-line retailers. Bring back one-time use electronic e-Visa card cahoot!!:(

I personally don't see why retailers need to, or should be allowed to, keep cardholders details until no more than the financial year if it is for tax purposes or at a if that isn't the reason.

Think it's to do with any audit that may take place. We have to keep loads of info for that 6 year period, just in case. But that's government rules, not us retailers.

What's the difference between online, phone or in store anyway. If you hand over your information you're at risk. Besides I'm not aware of any cards that have a 6 year expiry on them!
Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz
  • I also use trainline.com so maybe that's the common factor?
  • I've just noticed a £100 charge from these guys on my credit card from the 19th Jan :(

Will call Natwest tomorrow to dispute it. Would like to know how my number was taken, I did see people mentioning co-op earlier and I do shop there quite a lot, so maybe that's it. Other than that, the only new places i've used my card in the past few months are iwantoneofthose.com, wahl, and paperchase

Many retailers do not retain card details, and may not even process the card payment through their own systems anyway. The transaction details need to be kept for 7 years for regulatory reasons.

There is a set of Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards that state how card details must be handled, secured and stored which are stringent and expensive to implement. Failure to follow can result in you ability to take card payments being suspended, which would most likely put the retailer out of business. There is a whole host of companies (Worldpay etc) that will handle the card payment on behalft of the retailer and the retailer simply has a reference number to the transaction (in case of query) rather than the card number itself.
