  • I had an amount of £999.99 taken for tech giants walsall on 20th Jan. Lucklily my bank first direct are great and refunded the money and started an investigation. Out of interest are we all in the same area as when this happened to friends of mine a few years ago it was all traced back to the same garage where a member of staff was cloning cards. I'm in the tonbridge area.

South Wales.so this has happened before with them. Should make investigating easier then. Was the garage prosecuted?

Really looking forward to finding out who this firm is and getting them prosecuted and finding out how they got my details (if vanquis tell me that is)

It is unlikely (possible but unlikely) that Tech Giants are actually involved.

What is more likely is that they have a product that is easy for the real criminals (the ones who stole your card details) to turn into cash. The criminals will be ordering the items from Tech Giants using your card details.

The poster above said that this garage was traced as doing this a while back. Would a criminal use the same company twice for the same thing? Also, someone else has said the garage does automotive spare parts. Would any spare parts cost 999 pounds? Expensive parts if they do ( I don't own a car so maybe that isn't expensive).

The way I read it was that the poster was talking about the common connection between the victims in the previous case being a garage (not Tech Giants) that they had all used, where an employee was cloning cards and using them (or supplying them to someone else to use).

As to what they are ordering, I wasn't able to find Tech Giants when I Google'd them, so I don't know what sort of things they supply, but who says they were only ordering a single item - all we know is that 1 victim had £999 debited, but not what was ordered or how many orders there were.

They would have to be pretty stupid criminals if they were using their own company to make phantom debits as it would be fairly easy for the banks to trace it back to them.

Nice man got it nearly right....

ALL retailers hold the FULL card details on their systems for auditing purposes. THis should be for 6 years... So the tax man says...

When I say ALL I mean ALL. That includes your supermarket etc. While your reciept may only show 8 of the 16 numbers. The retailers side has it all....

Retailers DO NOT hold the 3 digit number on the back of the card though.

That's only transmitted online or over the phone. Never on a chip n pin transaction.

Yes we have to hold onto the info for at least 6 years!

I personally don't see why retailers need to, or should be allowed to, keep cardholders details until no more than the financial year if it is for tax purposes or at a if that isn't the reason.

    Hi all

I have just checked my online statement and had £329.99 taken from my credit card on the 20th of Jan for TECH GIANTS WALSALL GBR.

Reported it to the fraud dept and they are going to cancel my card and send new ones.

I recommend everyone checks their statement ASAP
  • I checked my Tesco Credit card statement today and I also have been "done" for £611.00 by Tech Giants on 20th Jan. Tesco's have been great, cancelled my card immediately and reassured me that I won't be liable for any of the money.
Would like to know how they got my details though and who is behind this fraud??
  • When I mentioned a garage in my earlier post it was to say that someone in the garage was cloning cards so everyone affected lived near that garage which made it easy for the police to track them down and they used the cards at multiple retailers. I think they booked flights which was incredibly stupid! In this case though it looks like tech giants is a bogus company created for a large scale fraud that all looks like it took place over a few days. Its probably linked to someone who works for one online retailer that we've all ordered from, although I think one poster said he never bought anything with his card so I can't see how they got his details. Let's hope they find them and soon before they do it to anyone else.
