No, they only have the date it insisted on defaulting to (ie tomorrow).

Halifax were quoted as saying that, if it's fixed today, all payments will then go through straightaway.

But the system no longer (AFAICS) has any record that I originally asked for a FP with today's date, so it can't go through straightaway.

I can only think that I shall have to keep logging in and trying to change it to today's date, though it's now too late to save me overdraft interest at FD.

I assume you got the following message:

"Unfortunately your payment won't go through immediately as a Faster Payment. Please only continue if you're happy for this payment to be processed the next working day"

  • Good time for a first post....

We get paid at work today and we use the Faster Payment service fron a Natwest account to other accounts.

Have spoken to all of the banks, Halifax and Lloyds are the ones with the major issues, as the system seems to be using their network, which is not allowing faster payments to be sent to, or from accounts on their group. As I bank with them.... it sucks.

However, in good news, most of the other banks, if not all, are working on this network. HSBC, Natwest, Nationwide, Barclays and RBS have all had FP's accepted in to staff accounts.

According to people who work within the banks, the system is starting up again, and all payments which are on hold will be batch processed as soon as it is up and running, and be sent and received within 5 minutes of the system being live again.

People should check to see if payments sent or Standing Orders or anything have bounced bank, and if so set them up again tomorrow. I would not do it tonight in case it relapses and decided to ruin our lives again.

According to the banks, they are expecting it to be solved by 5pm, but have said that 8pm at the latest all FP's should be processed.

Do you believe it? Who knows. If my payment isn't there tomorrow I guess I have lots of phone calls to make

    UPDATE FROM HALIFAX

I called the banking number. I am advised of the following:

"Halifax faster payment service will be switched on at approx 4:30pm today"

Just to add, I telephoned them twice so far today. The Halifax Customer Rep gave me £5.00 for the two telephone calls, and £10.00 for the inconvience. I did not even ask for it, so i thought that was good gesture. I should get the $15.00 tomorrow.

I also complained there was no information on there website, so the only way halifax customers could find out about the fault is trying to start a FP.

Any halifax banking customers should dial free from a landline on:

    0800 028 2498 press options 2, option 4 and option 1

Halifax are taking longer to answer, with a recorded message about staff shortages and the snow.

  • nothing is in my bank as of yet. I guess 4.36 is still close enough to 4.30 approx.

Come on Halifax, sort your stuff out

Yes, and I get the same message each time I try and amend the payment to 'as soon as possible'.

That includes a couple of minutes ago, so Lloyds' wasn't working by 4:30 either.
