Halifax and Lloyds fast payments (FB) service on the blink

  • Halifax have told me that I won't receive a late payment charge as my mortgage is in credit through overpayments but that my credit file may be marked with a missing/late payment. Thanks LTSB - more hassle to deal with.
  • I have a standing order from Lloyds to first direct (to feed reg.saver). The order was scheduled for Saturday (19th), money left the Lloyds account yesterday (21st), but has not yet arrived at FD today (22nd). (A separate payment into Lloyds did get credited sometime yesterday.)

Hadn't arrived by end of business on Tuesday, so phoned to find out what was going on. "Monday payments will go out tomorrow (Wednesday)." (Don't know why they couldn't have put that on the web site somewhere, or even a recorded message before waiting in the queue.)

Money was in the destination account this morning, so (fingers crossed) that's things resolved for me.

I made a faster payment from Santander to Halifax yesterday afternoon and still no sign of it yet.
  • I had a payment sent to me on the 21st which usually comes on 19th. It went back to the originator a/c and then back out again same day 21st. Its now thurs 24th and still not in my a/c or the originator account! What on earth is going on?!
  • My salary is paid by faster payment service from NatWest. It should have been received into my account on Monday. As of this morning it has still not been received.

On speaking with Halifax last evening, I was advised that the IT people there are trying to fix the problem, apparently somehow they have returned customers credits back to the payers, so my salary has been been returned to my company's bank account. They are trying to find a way to 'claw back' payments.

It's an absolute mess, no time frame being given for this to be put right and worse, no notification on the Halifax online site to advise customers they have this problem, only the usual wall of trying to sell you more of their services as you find your way to your accounts page.

I am not happy at all.
  • My daughter send money by faster payments from nat west into my lloyds account, it left her account on 21 Jan and has not been received as yet. 2 calls to lloyds left me stunned they started off by blaming nat west until I asked them are you blaming nat west they then said no its our fault as lloyds closed down their faster payments on monday 21 jan and expected any cash transfers to go BACs within a day or 2, that has not happened. Their advice is get nat west to claw the money back and then resend it which nat west have told my daughter not to do. Banks I hate them
  • Still not there! 5 days & counting!!!! Would be nice if I could get paid sometime this month! I hate Halifax!

ditto, I'm quite fuming. Still no word on their website about the problem either. Not sure I've got the stamina to ring them ... I was hoping Martin Lewis would highlight the problem when he appeared on 5 Live's consumer slot yesterday.

I've asked my company to issue a cheque for me to pay in this month. If it happens again next month then I'm voting with my feet and going elsewhere ... The Co-Op looks favourite at the moment.
  • another update ... I rang the Halifax again and this time was told the problem is now fixed, customers should contact their employers to request they resend bank credits. Apparently they didn't put anything on their website about the problem because they didn't want to 'cause a stampede and panic and have loads of people queuing on the phones'. Nothing to do with the negative publicity for the Halifax then :)

The man I spoke to said that not many people had been affected by this glitch (which apparently could easily happen to any bank). I mentioned a number of disgruntled Halifax customers on here and was told 'not to take any notice of that site, they're just troublemakers'! Does Martin know what the Halifax customer service department thinks of him?
  • I can't ask my "employer" to resend my payment as I am a childminder & it is one of my children's parent's who has paid me the same way for 3 yrs with no problems. The money is no longer in her account and she can't afford to pay me twice! Until it goes back to her she cant resend it! Its not showing in either of our bank accounts! She banks with Natwest, i'm with Halifax both banks who've got major problems with this fiasco. Just gonna have to sit & hope it turns up somewhere!
