Does the husband in your house pay the bills?
Comments
-
Me and OH earn roughly the same.
Most bill are in my name but OH transfers most of his wage to my account to cover his half. He does pay a few things from his account (CSA and his mobile mainly)
We each have our own savings but mine is way healthier than his as we use it for paying things like car insurance and tax, contents insurance etc. annually and I had a bit saved before we met.
As far as I'm concerned what's mine is his and what's his is mine but we have to keep things separate because he has poor credit left over from his marriage. My accounts would be restricted if we went joint at this stage but it is in the plan for the future.0 -
I thought these days it was "normal" in a relationship to split bills in proportion to your income, or to put most (or all) of it into a joint pot?
I certainly wouldn't want to be a kept woman completely reliant on my husband to pay the bills...0 -
Personally I would say it's not 'normal'. I wouldn't even split bills 50/50. It's got to be what works best for the couple concerned. But if it works for both parties then great.
We have one account - all money goes into it and then comes out to pay bills & entertainment. Wouldn't feel comfortable if OH earned same as me and paid all the bills - would fee like a kept woman rather than half of partnership. And I'd end up spending my money on him or the house anyway!0 -
My dad earns about 2.5x my mother's salary, and has always paid every bill and bought all of the food. This has caused quite a lot of resentment on his part.0
-
It would only be justified resentment if he was spending 40% of his take-home pay on the household and your mother spent all of hers on things only for herself.0

Will you also make sure your wife doesn't wear perfume, deodorants etc?
Have you found the lucky woman yet?
The OP is reminding me how lucky I am to be divorced!

My first thought when reading OP was "wind up". Reading the perfume thread has confirmed my original instinct was correct!

I earn a lot more money than my OH....but I do often dream of a time (which will never happen) when he earns big bucks and I can sit around all day buying myself pretty little things....:D
And.....back to reality (and not the 1920's!)
Seriously though I believe it should be give and take and I split most things 50 50 with my other half.Official DFW Nerd 1390 MFW 0/1800

We both earn roughly the same (take home). All household bills are shared 50/50 inc food. The rest is personal spending money. I'd would hate having anyone dictate to me how to spend the money I've earned and equally I would not do the same to anyone.
I tend to be very MSE whereas OH's more of a spender but as the household bills are covered - I take it's not my business how he sees fit to spend his money and we never ever argue about money.
If he wants a new flash car - hey, go baby - I'm not stopping ya, your money, do whatever your like with it. But it will be YOUR car, you pay for it, run it, pay for the repairs and insure it. I'll keep my old one.0
