Economy Energy, who are they?

My daughter was switched to this company without her knowledge so that when her electricity card stopped working she was told by Scottish Power to contact Economy Energy as she had been transferred to them in August (this was November). It took 5 days and £100 in phone calls for her to convince Scottish Power to issue an emergency card, but during the numerous telephone calls she never managed to get Economy Energy to answer the phone.I agree with the previous comment that the Ombudsmen Service is useless, we have referred the case to Consumer Futures(you can find details on the net) as if you are classed as vulnerable (i.e. elderly, sick or with a young child) they will take up the complaint on your behalf. At the moment they have so many complaints, they are creating a spreadsheet to send them all in one go. One final twist to note is that even if you have been switched without your knowledge, Economy Energy HAVE TO AGREE to you switching back to your previous supplier, which in my daughter's case still hasn't happened as they will not reply to any communication from anyone.0

Hi All
It seems we have a lot of people throwing there irons in the fire and passing comment on economy energy when you know nothing of them.
Just for the record the big 6 energy providers have had more complaints and fines for mis-selling then economy energy FACT!
and id imagine you pay your bills to them?? unless you burn your own fuel , i will tell you why its because no one is perfect, give this company a break for breaking the choke hold on pre payment customer who are generally on the lowest income and they pay in advance? and they get charged the most.
so hats off to economy energy only time will tell if they too get too big for there boots but in the meantime they have my customer i am calling them now to switch over and do away with them silly standing charges!!:T0 -

My daughter apparently signed up for economy energy last October after a knock on the door by a sales man. Her electricity meter is costing her 20 pounds a week electricity, gas the same, for a small 2 bed house. She has tried to change suppliers due to her limited income but always refused.
Yesterday her key refused to work to top up. As they do not use the emergency credit system she was left with no electricity. She proceeded to phone the 0844 number only to be told they don't work on Sundays just take messages for Monday!!! She had used all her phone credit so was unable to contact any family or friends for help, so her and her 3 year old were left without cooker, heating lights from Sunday morning. She has just contacted them, after taking the morning off work and they have given her a code now. They also mentioned she cant leave her contract until October or she must pay 50 pounds to them.
My question is can she claim the 50 off them for leaving her with no service, for 24 hours, having to have time off work and not being to cook or even light the house with a small child there. I thought maybe then she could tell them to keep the 50 and use that to leave this shambles of a company. She is desperate to leave not only because of this but also the cost is breaking her.0 -
Hi bbex, its not good when supplier cannot supply the services they promise you should contact Consumer Futures on 02077997900.
Consumer Futures are an office empowered by OFGEM, the governments Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, the energy regulator,
They carry out an outstanding service looking after the needs and requirements of the domestic consumer. They will take your complaint details and it will be managed as a case, they will then liaise with Economy Energy to bring a solution, getting your daughter back on supply and getting her any required compensation.
To answer your question yes your daughter will be due compensation for being off supply, this is paid at a daily rate, Consumer Futures will advise further.
Hope this is helpful.0 -
Hi, I am trying very hard to transfer to British Gas and Economy Energy are making it near impossible
After taking 3 days to get through to them I told them I am transferring my gas and electric to BG they said ok
British Gas informed me that Economy Energy had put in objections preventing the transfer. Another 2 days trying to get through and they said they had lifted the objections and didnt know why they had been put in place. Now I am about to be supplied my electric by british gas but still objection against gas!!!!
Tried yesterday to get through and today. No answer!
Their website is a waste of time. They have listed their opening hours 8am to 11pm Monday to Sunday however I have just tried them and it says they are closed. Their claims that they are cheaper then anyone else are incorrect. Before I moved to them I took a note of the price of my supplier and when I started with Economy Energy their tariff is dearer!
Their website gives no information on prices.
Hopefully I will get the gas supply sorted very soon and will be happy to escape the clutches of Economy Energy. AVOID0
