Balancing not just the budget

Well done on so many things Rosa. You're doing so well!
Congratulations on finishing the disseration, and being able to pull an all nighter. I love my bed far too much for any of those shenanigans!
You've made me feel some enthusiasm for the chores I've set myself this weekend, thank you. MTx0 -
Thanks lovelies
MT I love my bed too... and I was doing my writing in it which makes the all nighter a bit easier :rotfl: . I know I ought to keep stuff separate but I just feel most relaxed that way so I went back to having the laptop and my books piled all round on the duvet.
Budget is running OK so far this month, and holiday plans are shaping up. It's payday tomorrow so I'll have a proper look then.

I'm a firm believer of study the way that works best for you, I recall I found it really hard to concentrate with zero noise in the background and actually found it easier with the radio or TV on low (so long as I didn't get distracted) perhaps it mirrored background noise of a classroom environment?
Pay day here today, treated myself to some nice moisturiser ...via fleabay :money: there's often samples for sale for the one I like so every so often I treat myself at the right price. Oh, and this week I've even bought some ink for the printer that has been out of action for over a year due to lack of ink :eek:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hmmmm. I had forgotten holidays are so expensive.
This probably explains why I haven't had one for longer than I'm going to admit.
I've found a lovely place for the mogs to stay, but that's going to cost £175 in itself. I need £130 for flights, £40 for tickets to get to and from the airport, probably £50 to contribute to petrol, and possibly the cost of being added to car insurance. That's before looking at ferry ticket, places to stay, local trips out, and eating out for nearly 2 weeks.Oh, and as my backpack finally fell apart (fair enough, it's lasted from my gap year :rotfl:) I need a new one.
This isn't even an expensive location or trip, it's just a chance to go somewhere I really want to see with a friend who knows it well. I so don't want to miss it so I'm going to go, and I'm going to make the most of it. It may mean I have to wait yet another month to be finally officially DF, but I can't put the trip off as it would get tangled with other commitments. And the only thing waiting to be paid is college fees on 0%, so it's not costing me money or an irresponsible spend.
On the bright side, I am soooooo looking forward to this :j:j and it doesn't have to be an expensive trip - the friend I'm going with is also skint so we will be making it a frugal roadtrip, staying in hostels and with friends where we can and doing lots of nothing but ambling through beautiful places and eating good local food. :T

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: love the link, thank you, it's just gone onto my FB page.
Honestly, I've ordered all manner of things from fleabay this week, phone case (figured better to spend on that than a new phone screen if it got damaged) Hoover bags (because some of us do still use them), stain remover and moisturiser. Wild indeed lol.
Just bought some new bed linen on the next site, had £25 from shop and scan, plus when I was instore today the guy gave me a £10 off code so I just spent £7 on two new sheets and a valance. Our current sheets are about 5yrs old and being white look a little past their best. Our current valance is a little short and thin and generally just needs an upgrade, plus I found a suspicious mark on it the other day ...looks like mog has piddled on it :eek::eek: God knows how I missed that before, and she's not usually allowed in the bedroom, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't me or OH at that height or angle :rotfl:
Holidays do add up Rosa, I think I still measure the cost of ours against a self catering one I took with friends when I was 18. The three nights I've just spent in Vencie with DM was certainly a shock to the wallet but my friend (who upped sticks and went travelling) posted this a while back, from a hammock in Mexico

I'm going to try and embrace this more (which may mean loosening those purse strings a little sometimes but for the right things).Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Rosa - I think my bed is evil based on what you wrote here. If I was lying in bed writing I'd get a strong feeling of lying back and eye closing! My bed is against me - where yours helps you!!!

Well done on the sheets bargain Kerri - I always buy plain white as it looks so fresh but will survive boil washing if required!
Great article too. I certainly agree - I don't regret paying out for my degree, it's something I love and has brought me several lovely friends. Though I don't regret buying the car either, it's enabled me to see people so much more. And I have to confess that I've just bought a rather expensive bottle of perfume which I will enjoy so much it's worth it to me. I think the key is perhaps about buying things *you* love to experience, whether that's delighting in your perfume every morning, in the zoom under your foot as you set off in your car, or the memories of your favourite place that come to you in quiet moments, rather than because anybody else has or likes them.

:rotfl: it's all the years of flatsharing MT - my bed has had to double as my sofa quite a lot!

I've been lucky that I've never flat shared, although I did live in a studio apartment once, which was beyond bad. I think it was a step up from derelict, but it wasn't a bad monthly price and I was able to shut the world out when I wanted to, so I'm not complaining. I think I was 19 when I lived there too. I did have a sofa bed too, which could have taught me the ways of being in bed and doing work, but it was "dank" so I used to sleep on a duvet, on the floor!
I absolutely agree with you and Kerri on spending money on things that genuinely make you happy, and loosening the budget to allow for that. I've not mastered the control of that yet. I'm a bit bi-polar still and need to find a better balance.
