Yes I did notice you had a car loan from your parents and it made me feel a bit better. How does anyone get a decent car these days unless they get a loan or it's a company car? It's just the idea of taking out a significant amount of credit that doesn't sit easy with me having been debt free for over 3 years....however my current car is 11 years old and I've had it for 9 of them. I haven't even had a relationship THAT long :D It doesn't owe me anything but it is just starting to go wrong.

I am looking to get a N1ssan Jooke....have finally decided that I'd quite like something super! It does mean that I will have to be really focused on keeping track of my money but I'm usually better with it when i have very little in my account - every penny is watched like a hawk....it's when i have loads sloshing around that i just fritter it away....

*is it too early for a Cosmopolitan?*

Certainly not too early by now :D *passes over cocktail, clinks glasses with Vasseur*

I was really hoping my old car would last long enough to get me DF - it lasted 7 years (for me, it was 5 years old when I got it) and probably would have managed another 2 if not for the bump. I hadn't really considered what I'd do after that. I guess maybe I should start saving once the value drops much below replacement and try to keep pace with that. Although I may not be a very good example as I don't really mind whether my car is decent - so long as it's reliable, safe and has a stereo it's good with me :) - those who enjoy their cars the way I enjoy my chocolate may feel differently!

The Jooke looks cute, though I'm not entirely convinced about the canary yellow one on their website.

I seem to do better with money when there's a little flexibility - I get antsy when I'm down to pennies, I feel restricted and then end up spending on something silly :o. I think perhaps part of our DF journey is learning about ourselves, pretty much like the rest of life really!
And that's getting a bit deep for a party sooo... *drains cocktail, hits dancefloor* :D

Last Card is now CLOSED :T

And I've spoken to MyBank and reduced the limit on that card by £2.5K.

    This leaves me with...
    • One current account, OD facility over £1K (should maybe reduce this)
    • One credit card with the same bank, which I can view and pay on mobile banking, £3K. (This is to use for credit card protection on purchases and is usually cleared within days by transfer from the current account.)
    • One credit card with permanent low rate and 0% on purchases for this year, £3K
I don't intend to be using any of that except for college fees and emergencies, in which case it will go on the 0%. I will also start saving my buffer fund now :D and once I've got that going will move on to the mortgage deposit fund :D

Bit of a different picture from when I started isn't it?

Rrrrrright... (*does not crack knuckles, can't bear that sound*)

Have managed to catch up a bit on all the house stuff that I somehow didn't feel like this last week. Washing in, flat tidied, etc. Also made a little progress on Kondo-ing by clearing the last drawer - it's been mostly dumped in the wash to be 3bayed - and sorted out most of my bags. There are some more 'evening' ones in another box which I will get to eventually but I'm quite pleased that I managed to cut things down to fit in one underbed box. My wardrobe is definitely shrinking overall as I've also swopped the winter coats that were taking up half the bags box into the 'off-season' box - need to swop things over properly when the weather warms up a bit more, for now I am just fishing things out and flinging stuff in so it will need tidying to stay in a decent state for next winter. Oh and I remembered I have some shelves in the garden storage thing so might try measuring up and see if they'd fit in the wardrobe. Dunno why I didn't think of that before - thank you KonMari :)

I also sorted through my 'sport' stuff and have now got all of that in another underbed box where it can be easily grabbed before running out of the house - gym bag and running shoes are right next to it, and the sports bras and socks are in there too so no need to go finding anything. I've split the swimming stuff into 'actual swimming' type things which have stayed in the 'sport' box and shifted the ones I [STRIKE]can't [/STRIKE] shouldn't publicly swim in to another spot where they are all ready for spa trips instead :)

Speaking of which I have a spa Gr0upon to use... must ring the hotel tomorrow. The hotel seem to repeat this deal so I've been a few times now and it works out very nicely - £14 for spa and swim access for 2, and generally a discount off treatments, so I go with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and it just makes a lovely relaxing day.

I'm taking too long to read through your whole diary, so I've made a note of which page I'm on and I'll keep up to date too now.

That's fantastic news on the last card payoff. I would dance around the pole but ....... is that a crash mark in the wall over there? ...... oh, what's that?........ a dropped praline!!!! Yay <snuffle>!!!!

Another person sounding all productive and organised! Thank you all for highlighting my lazy flaws and putting me to shame! I should probably get off the computer soon and get my Sunday chores started now!!!!

YAY again! What a fantastic achievement. I'm so so happy for you! MTx

    what a fantastically uplifting post
so pleased for you - sometimes these journeys are long but they teach a lot - I so wish I got to do this years ago - but am there now

I think a buffer fund is essential and now for you is the right time to start one - do you have an amount in mind or are you just going to save

now dont go spending all the spare cash on chocolate - just a little of it :)
    Emergency fund £10,000
    Several categories with savings in
    Cars, house maintenance, birthdays
Etc I have about 10 categories

Really happy to be debt free after being a compulsive spender

Thank you and you're so right - I do sometimes wish I hadn't got myself into that mess (see, I don't have to say 'this' any more because it's over :D ) but I wouldn't have learnt as much about myself or the world or what I need and want - so guess it's all OK

I want to get the vet and dental emergency pots up to £200, I think that will be enough to have to hand. I'm also going to start up my holidays fund again and that will get more per month than it did before. And then there's the buffer fund which is mainly to build up a month's salary as per YNAB. I think that's all I'd want to keep in the current account, after that I will look at putting aside savings. I'll also think about whether I can afford to start a separate pot for house deposit, or whether that should wait til I have the buffer fund sorted.

Well funny you should mention that :D... no actually I've been very good re chocolate, but I did buy a dress on Ebay that I've looked at every time one came up and never bought it because I felt I couldn't take the risk. Now I have and if the colour or fit isn't right it will just go straight back on Ebay so worst that can happen is I lose a tenner or so in finding out. Everything else I've had of theirs is lovely though so fingers crossed :)

Rosa great you want to get a few pots topped up
will the vet one be enough with wormers and flea treatments etc or do you just pay them as they turn up

I am going for a buffer fund of 500 to start with and a holiday fund that will pay for the holidays and some for spending
then after I have been in october all the spare will go to leaving a full months wages in the account and a specific dog fund - we are ok but if for any reason they all needed the vet at once I would really struggle

I hope the dress is exactly what you want it to be
any chance of a picture on here :)
