  • Thank you lovely people :):A

I'm really happy about it - the actual moving stuff will be a PITA but I'm so looking forward to living somewhere that I'm not constantly falling over things or moving item C in order to move B to reach A. It's not as if I have a massive amount of stuff, I do try to declutter, but even things like spare bedding for guests and the books for my new work are extras to fit into this flat.

Plus I will get to pootle round second hand shops and rescue lovely things instead of living with rented junk or Ikea-veneer (which has its places, but I would like options now).

And I'm so looking forward to having friends to stay :j

    Very happy bunny :D

  • Congratulations Rosa. Was this the house your friends went to view with you?

I love pre loved furniture. I have a drop leaf writing desk and an old blanket box that was my nans.

So excited to hear what you buy.

    Thanks Tink :)

Yes it was the house my friends came to view and I really recommend taking people along, it was SO helpful. I felt much more confident that any issues had been spotted and they could ask awkward questions of the agent that I felt I hadn't got quite clear the first time round, without me feeling silly. Neither of them are professionals but they have both bought more than once and know the processes.

I'm going to bring some furniture back from family at Christmas, as there are a few things they are keeping for me. Now that you mention blanket boxes, I was looking at a lovely one online yesterday but it's just occurred to me there may be trunks in the attic I could look at :)

Of course this is all assuming that everything goes smoothly with the sale! but my situation is straightforward and so is the vendors so hopefully it will be OK. I'm working my way through the :money:mortgage pages again this afternoon!

    Thanks Sam :)

I'm looking round for things to declutter before moving but finding most of my stuff is actually OK and can just be edited while packing. So hopefully the earlier efforts are paying off!

Decluttering works as a substitute for me too. It's almost the same feeling too. Weird eh?

Interesting - maybe it's about choosing what we want to be in our lives, and feeling we can envision how our lives will be and what we need in them?

Me too, or even a good tidy up. Although today I was putting some scarves away and snagged one on a door frame (rough edge I wasn't aware of)

  • Sunday shuffle time... am beginning to think I need some dancers for this, like MT's Wednesday girls!

Two weeks to payday and all's well. I'm going to have to cancel a planned trip this month - must remember to specifically say that to the friend I was going to visit - but it's OK as she hasn't got clear days when she's free and I need both the money and time to be sorting the house move.

I've emailed two mortgage brokers for advice this evening - one local one recommended although apparently not formally linked to the estate agent, and a national one that MSE say usually come out in the top ten. I'm also going to email one who my parents know, primarily to keep them happy. We'll see what they come up with. I have enough money put aside to pay for a full survey up front and remembered that there will be an extra few hundred towards the legals or house from the HTB ISA when that is used, plus my rent deposit should be returned which can hopefully go towards stamp duty. I've spent part of this afternoon reading the mortgage boards to educate myself a little.

Trying not to get totally overexcited about moving but hoping it all works out. :)
