Hello Rosa,
That's such exciting news on a potential new home. I'm sorry the council tax is such a huge whack on top though. How will you afford to eat?
I really hope that all goes the way you want it to. I'm really happy for you.

Thanks MT
They've turned down my first offer, which I expected, and I've gone back with an offer which is both my limit financially and what I think is reasonable for the property. I don't really expect they'll accept it tbh.
There is another property on the same road which I actually saw first, but thought they were already accepting an offer - apparently it's still on the market after all. I might make an offer on that if the first one isn't accepted, as it should go for slightly less.
On the other hand it's all a bit scary and everything is very uncertain at the moment, so I also won't be upset if it happens that I stay where I am and save for a while longer. So it's all good either way, which is a nice place to be and I'm very grateful for it!

I do sometimes smile at how far we've all come. From being scared to open letters (I had a cupboard full of unopened post) to you knowing that it doesn't matter if you buy a house now or spend more time saving.

Absolutely true. I realised earlier that the amount I now want 'spare' over and above my carefully calculated budget with everything in it, is double what I used to have as disposable income once I'd paid for college.
It won't necessarily make the estate agent happy but I doubt they will get a great deal of sympathy :rotfl:

Just scooting by to say great news on the house Rosa, whatever way it falls. Right advise about the lump sum letter too - we had a lump sum earlier this year (not a gift) but I knew it would raise questions so sent a copy of the payment letter along with all the other initial docs to the mortgage broker...who then asked for proof about the £XXX deposit sum in the accounts provided...to which I gently pointed out "I've already sent you that as I knew you'd ask for it" lol!
I know I haven't been with you since the start of your journey but it is lovely to hear how everyone is getting along and so many positive changes since we all 'met' xxFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

It's all sounding good. I wish I knew to put in a lower price to the offer price when I bought my home. I was so financial illiterate
But to misquote Maya Angelo... I did my best until I knew better and when I knew better I did better

Thank you lovely people
Oddly enough about 10 seconds after I posted about the house offer an email showed up about a third house which has just come back on the market... outside my initial budget, but they might be in a hurry and it might be lovely enough to be worth a little more... so might go and see that too
All good... DIA that's a wonderful quote, we can only ever do our best and so really it's always good enough because it's the best we could do (if that makes any sense at all!).

I freaked out a bit when we got our mortgage, seemed such a big responsibility and had a massive 'OMG what if we can't pay it' moment - had to give myself a stern talking to along the lines of 'its no different to paying rent, except you're paying it to yourself, for your own benefit and your own home - if you hadn't paid rent then you'd have still been chucked out and you weren't all those years so go and look at some colour charts knowing you can do whatever you like because its YOUR home'Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
