So you're paying almost £28 for £25? That seems a bit of a con!

It is similar to not paying the whole of a credit card bill in one go they charge you interest on the balance on this they charge you the interest in advance and call it a service fee.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

Cash as a gift is thoughtless - vouchers at least you have actually made the effort to go to the shops and buy something.

I'm sure people stuck with worthless gift vouchers would be thinking otherwise. Whenever I've received vouchers as pressies I've always been grateful, but really kind of annoyed that they've forced me to go to a very specific place to spend them.

In the end gift vouchers still come across as the kind of present people give when they couldn't be arsed to put any thought into it.

It would be good to see the end of store specific gift vouchers

There is a voucher that exists that isn't store specific, it's called cash. ;)

yup, that why i would not buy one personally, but better than say an HMV gift card or any shop specific gift card

I wouldn't say it's better than a gift card for a company that is in no danger of going bust anytime soon eg amazon, next or M&S.

So if HMV are not accepting returns or offering refunds, 'for any reason', does this mean there is a legal way to avoid the Sale of Goods Act ?

at the moment they are HMV Ltd and HMV Card Services Ltd, and these are who you have paid your money to for goods and gift cards.

Once they actually go into administration ( not yet as their shares are still available) hmvgroup-com
the administrators will change them to HMV (in administration) Ltd and HMV Card Services (in administration) Ltd which are different entities of which you have not paid anything too, so they are under no obligation to honor gift card/vouchers.
  • Gift vouchers are one of the most thoughtless and selfish gifts ever invented.
Basically receiving one is the equivalent of being told that they couldn't be bothered to give you cash but now feel the need to deceide on your behalf where you shop, they are just a cop out.

Give me crisp new bank notes any day at least it shows you've made the effort to get them out the bank or cash point rather than clear your conscience by trying to pretend some thought has gone into the gift when in reality it hasn't and is more of a conscience cleaning exercise.

Course I will accept crumpled bank notes as well :)

i dont think next is that secure as i have noticed they have closed several stores this last year. But yes some retailers are secure enough to trust vouchers.

Or of course it could be for someone who doesn't have anything specific they want but appreciate a gift card given to them so they can use at some point in future.
I won't be posting very often in here. What a cold lot some of you are!
I also wanted to point out are pre-orders affected by going into admin? There's a lot of money banked from that line of business too especially for upcoming games and bluray/DVD HMV exclusive editions.

There last profit announcement was they made a profit of 250 million in just 6 months so I doubt they are in any major trouble :-)
