I have received them for donkeys years!
True, that why i suggested earlier the pre paid mastercards was a good safe alternative, but if you look at the retailer you are buying the cards for, you can sometimes have tell tale signs that something is up.
Comet was a prime example of something up.
Kesa sell Comet to newly set up Private Equity Company (just set up to take over Comet) for £2 and then invest £50 Million into the Private Equity Company. to me Kesa were behind the PEC as why sell for £2 and then invest £50 million. just a easy way to clear company debts with suppliers and then set up with a slightly different name Comet Ltd to Comet Group Ltd.0 -

You would give the name of the person yo are giving it to, pre load it with the amount you want to give and the recipient had to supply photo ID when using it, but they could be used anywhere.
In theory you could do that now. Although in many cases you would have to take it out yourself.
Plenty of prepaid card suppliers out there. Although the biggest issue is load/unload costs.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
It appears that the warnings were there all along on the internet if you knew where to look.

I'm in the camp which thinks companies are fraudulent twonks for allowing you to buy a gift voucher one week then rendering it worthless the next. I cannot believe they would NOT know they were in such difficulties at least months in advance. They should not be able to sell vouchers if they are in such a position, independent shops which have gone out of business round here have made damn sure they honoured every last gift voucher they had sold previously over a year before.

I have to be honest this is why I gave the nephews & nieces cash rather than a giftcard.
As for the prepaid visa card there was a thread on another board where the OP was sayng that they had difficulty in getting shops to acccept even these2014 Target;

A thought went through my head yesterday as to the following possible situation but I don't plan to test it.
Imagine that someone who was given an HMV gift token for Christmas were to go into the store and try to steal a CD or DVD to the value of the token. If caught, and prosecuted, the gift token would be shown to the court as defence of the case.0 -

It would still be theft though, so while there may be mitigating circumstances, a crime has still been committed. I for one would not risk a criminal record for the sake of a CD/DVD.0 -

In the info on the main site
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/shopping/2013/01/hmv-to-go-into-administration-your-rightsQ. Is it against the law to just walk out with goods to the value of my gift vouchers?
We're surprised how many have asked us this, but yes, it is theft, a criminal offence and you can be arrested.
Like everyone else HMV owes money to, you're now a creditor and its assets (which includes its stock) need to be distributed in a set way by law.
this may be also by of interest from Martins twitter feed @MartinSLewisIf you hear of any firms offering to letyou redeam #HMV vouchers (fully or partially) pls send me a link we're compiling a list0
