Gift vouchers are one of the most thoughtless and selfish gifts

I dont really think its this, but what it says. I could not really be bothered to search for something you may not like, so here is a card to go and get something that you really want.

Or more accurately- I couldn't think of anything to buy you so bought you a gift voucher for something you might want to choose yourself from a shop I demand you go in to even though I had no imagination in the first place I now feel smug in the knowledge I haven't been so disrespecting as to give you cash so you can buy anything you want from anywhere you want, or heaven forbid have a drink or pay a bit of a bill on me.

That said I did buy the missus a gift voucher for Amazon this year but then I had some free credit from a A-Z guarantee claim. :o

There last profit announcement was they made a profit of 250 million in just 6 months so I doubt they are in any major trouble :-)

Is that the 6 months that includes the start of the sale.... But not the bit just after where they have to refund at least 50% of the money taken on all the returned products. :rotfl:

That from hard experience of the ladies at work who simply plunder the shelves of anything they can. Then in the hard light of the day take the vast majority back.

On a slightly diffrent note. John Lewis claimed one of the best christmas ever.....
I know why fraud to JL started from mid december and is still rife... Average file we see to them is £2.5K
Cynical side of some of us wonder if they have anything to do with this :rotfl:

    Gross or Nett

Its earlier guidance had been between £590m and £620m for 2012-13. Next's shares added 101p, or more than 2 per cent, to 3,873p

Don't know if any company does it, but wouldn't it be good PR for one of the Banks to actually prouce a pre paid VISA/Mastercard that you could give as a gift token instead?

You would give the name of the person yo are giving it to, pre load it with the amount you want to give and the recipient had to supply photo ID when using it, but they could be used anywhere.

Be a good PR exercise for a bank and could get kids used to dealing with banks, instead of just putting a card in the machine and you suddenly get money out, not realising you have to have money there in the first place, as my OH son did when he was 6 !

Deloitte appointed administrators to HMV Group plc, HMV Music Ltd, HMV UK Ltd and Fopp Entertainments Ltd

Nick Edwards, Rob Harding and Neville Kahn of Deloitte, the business advisory firm, have today been appointed Joint Administrators to HMV’s UK retail business, the high street retailer of filmed entertainment, games, music and portable digital technology products.

HMV, which is headquartered in London, operates out of 223 stores in high streets and shopping centres across the UK, and has 4,123 employees.

Nick Edwards, Joint Administrator and restructuring services partner at Deloitte, commented: “HMV is an iconic retailer and continues to be a very popular brand, but as we have seen with many high street retailers, the market is changing rapidly and conditions are currently very tough.

“Following our appointment, we are working closely with management and staff to stabilise the business in order to continue trading whilst actively seeking a purchaser for the business and assets. We appreciate the cooperation and support from the staff, customers, suppliers and landlords at what is clearly a difficult time.”

Certain HMV Group plc subsidiaries including HMV Guernsey Ltd, HMV Hong Kong Ltd, HMV Ireland Ltd, HMV Singapore Ltd and 7Digital Group remain outside of an insolvency process.

I thought the adminstrators themselves and the taxman got paid before anyone else.

Exactly. And if the poster above think that banks don't have ways of extracting as much as they can before everyone else he is deluded. I have it on first hand authority from someone who works for one an Isolvency Practitioner.

Administrators are first, then staff. HMRC lost their preferential status a few years ago.

The banks will no doubt have taken assorted charges on real assets like buildings owned by HMV which will protect them to a certain extent.

I think HMV has recently sold off various assets like their live music side, industry rumours say it changed hands at a surprisingly low price so no doubt various people will be looking into that.
