HMV Not Accepting Vouchers - Surely This Is Fraud

A thought went through my head yesterday as to the following possible situation but I don't plan to test it.
Imagine that someone who was given an HMV gift token for Christmas were to go into the store and try to steal a CD or DVD to the value of the token. If caught, and prosecuted, the gift token would be shown to the court as defence of the case.
Nope, that'd be stupid and you'd be arrested.
It's theft.
The current HMV owe you nothing, so you'd be stealing from a company you've had no dealings with. The same as walking out of Asda with a bag of nappies under your arm.0 -
Lets start a Moneysavingexpert campaign to boycott all store gift vouchers/cards until the law is changedLack of money is the root of all evil.

When mine were younger, they got to choose what they wanted if they received cash, I would never have thought to have spent it myself. When they were even younger, we would choose for them but it would be a child related item for example, some lego etc, although mine (all bar youngest who had no speech until he was nearly 6 - he would just throw his cup at things he wanted instead) were very vocal about wants from a very young age
Mine are older now (19,16 and 14), thankfully they received cash rather than vouchers this Christmas...and none of it went on drink! They purchased items on their Christmas lists which others had not got them..strangely enough, some from HMV (was a blooming nightmare as well I can tell you, horribly overwarm, displays all over the place blocking the aisles and a bass beat that sent me doo lally and I am a rock fan! :rotfl:)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

As I said, I have no plans to test it but it is not exactly the same as walking out of Asda with nappies (without a voucher involved) . I understand that holders of vouchers do not have priority over other creditors but HMV should not have been selling vouchers right up to Monday of this week. Personally I would not have bought any HMV vouchers for anyone over Christmas but many people did.0 -
Whoever takes them over may honour the vouchers in the meantime from MSEQ. Are other shops/restaurants accepting HMV vouchers?
We've seen some totally unrelated outlets saying they will accept HMV vouchers as a goodwill gesture for money off their products or freebies.
We've seen two local restaurants tweet special offers: Big Easy in Chelsea, London, says those with a voucher will get a free margarita; while Oldfields in Durham will give 50% off the bill.
Meanwhile, the online gift store Musicgiftsuk.com, a supplier of HMV, says it will accept half the face value of vouchers if you buy one of its products, and send the voucher in by the end of the month.0 -
Play HMV at their own game. Select the goods, take to counter, give the staff your voucher and walk out. No dialogue with staff, just go. Let them chase after you and insist you paid with the voucher. Tell them to check their CCTV. Better still get your mate to video you in action.
Lights Camera Voucher........
Well just a thought.0 -

As above, as they will refuse the voucher it is still theft and punishable as such.0 -
