Nowhere in the post you quote is anyone saying vouchers are a good thing.

If this isn't suggesting vouchers are better than cash then what is it doing?

Cash as a gift is thoughtless - vouchers at least you have actually made the effort to go to the shops and buy something
  • I found a letter online regarding the administration sent to all stores, basically it's no returns for any reason and no gift cards.

Makes sense to me - after all administration is there to protect the business during restructuring.

    ( replace the - with.)

Deloitte UK HMV has confirmed its intention to appoint Deloitte as administrators but we have not yet been appointed. It is expected this will happen later today and we will provide further information at that stage.

    .
Cash is always the best option in hindsight but many people like to give a GIFT card, get it??? Many obviously don't.

That's fine for people who want to do it but they should not try to suggest to others it is a good thing or better than cash when time and time again people have lost money.

Yes, but you still won't be able to force HMV to take the card.

They'll tell you to do one, and by the time you could actually do anything about it they'll be in admin.

it is ring fenced protected by Park Group, their Banks and the Government

The first 2 so was Farepak!

Can see no evidence of the third can you point to anything that this is a govt backed scheme? I can only find evidence that it is a self regulation thing. Even the cash on the cards is not protected by the govt scheme. From the website "You should be aware that the Financial Services Compensation Scheme does not apply to the balance on your Card."

The Cards are regulated by the financial regulator but no subject to the compensation scheme, unless you can provide a link to something that says otherwise.

But trusting self regulation is a bit risky.

End of the day matters not to me never buy anyone anything too mean! :)
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

there should be severe penalties for companies who deliberately run themselves into the ground to maximise the money given to directors and shareholders before admitting failure.

    I totally agree with this.

if you look at some companies ( some have totally gone )

    Officers Club
    Ethal Austin
    Vaux Breweries
    etc.

That have gone into Administration only to be bought out of Administration by the Directors (who were responsible for placing the company into administration in the first place)

    an example is

Comet sold to private equity company by Kesa for £2 then Kesa invest £50 million into the private equity company

It was mentioned at the time and their is something in the terms on the back of the order form in Park catalogues that mentions the scheme name.

Ok, I said, nowhere in the post you quote is anyone saying vouchers are a good thing.

You were quoting Falcon in post #61 and saying it was another poster saying vouchers were a good thing. He / she made a series of valid points, none of which were saying vouchers were better than cash.

    True

and technically a gift card/voucher is just an invitation to exchange for goods, but if its a gift then as you are not the purchaser then any store/retailer can refuse a gift card, just like if someone gives you a gift and it becomes faulty as you did not purchase the item then the retailer can refuse to exchange/refund/repair as they have no contract with you.
