• Often wondered how people go about buying cars for big sums (my biggest was £2800 last year, cash brought from a garage). I've always provided ID when selling just for peace of mind for seller, and would have no problem asking a buyer for theirs.

hi can i get help or advice please
November 2012 I saw an advert on the Auto Trader website for a car which i thought was perfect, it was for a BMW X6 XDrive 2009 going for £22,000. I was over the moon because i had been looking for a 4X4 vehicle for a long time and this one in particular was right up my budget. I contacted the seller and over the telephone we came to an agreement that the seller would accept £21,500 cash. With that settlement I went ahead and ran a HPI check on the vehicle and it came back clear so I proceeded to make my way were the seller was waiting for me.
I arrived to the train station and got a cab to the address that the seller had given me
Drove about a minutes to the house, the seller told me that he was the son of the seller his father got him to meet me last minute.
I did not see anything strange about that. I proceeded in what I travelled to the location and checked out the car VIN was correct and did a test drive everything looked normal with the vehicle I was very happy with the condition of the car. We went into the house which I assumed was the sellers sons house it looked very normal and lived in. in the kitchen i handed over the cash and the sellers son handed me the paper work for the car included the MOT/service history book and car v5c documents and the Manuel book for the car. I left the area very happy with my car.

a week later i sent the log book to DVLA to register as the new owner of the car about 2 weeks later I received a letter from the metropolitan police informing me that they have received a letter from the DVLA for a new keeper but they need to come.

On the 09/01/12 the police investigators came to my property to run checks on the car and they informed me that the car was actually a clone it had been stolen and made to look legit the number plate had been changed and so was the VIN So the car has been taken away by the police I and my pregnant girlfriend are £21,500 out of pocket we are expecting our first child. Now I don’t know what to do any advice

Your first mistake was thinking you could buy a 2009 X6 for £21.5k Didn't the penny drop that this was well below market price for this car?

A fool and his money are soon parted !!!

They believe me because they went to that house and someone told them that they have moved last month plus they got fingerprint on the document that was given to me on the fake v5c service history book mot invoice ect. Do you actually think I got time to come write no sense in here like I don’t have anything better to do?

It appears that it was around £5000 under what it should have been. Did you not wonder why?

The sale never happened, this is a wind up.

Indeed it is yet someone has removed my post!

No-one would spend that amount of money on a car over a house when they have a baby on the way - especially a car they want which they will resell a few months down the line taking a knock on the head with depreciation too.

I want a McClaren Merc like jezza on top gear. It doesn't mean I'd buy one and then resell it though taking a massive loss in value.

To be 5k under market value the must have been an issue, so what would it be worth when he came to resell it? Smacks of being a cat c at best.

If it did happen and that's an if, the op should be done for handling if it were a straight car.

Pep I don't think the op is real. Like you, i think it's someone who's bored and decided to make up a tale to entertain themselves. Nothing about this seems realistic.

If you had a kid on the way, would you choose a car or security in the form of a house for your future? I know what I'd pick and it certainly wouldn't be something I'd be claiming to be happy to sell again and take a loss on!

It did buy a new car about two months before my first was born. However I had a home and actually went from a performance car to a sensible one and didn't invest my deposit in a depreciating asset.

I do agree the op is trolling.

I think so too. The OP has not yet explained why they sent the Registration Document off to DVLA (it's the seller that does this).
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Why would the person the OP met say he was the seller's son? Surely the person making the sale would be the same person placing the ad and the same person the OP spoke to on the phone. And even if he wasn't, unless the OP's phone has video he's not going to know. Fail.
