Pen Pin - Mousakka aswell as things like Lasagne I make up on the morning and put it oven later.
Good afternoon to everyone, hugs to anyone else who needs one today. Hope you are all having a nice Saturday.
Well I got up to a lovely note - Please get me up at 12.30pm and put seat covers in wash. Ewwww my stomach turned straight away as that means someone was sick in the taxi last night. DP yet again left them on the floor for me to deal with (he'd hosed them down but not the point) instead of putting them in the washer which was empty. So he'll be getting told off for that when he gets up! I'm sick of telling him, I know he's tired when he gets home but it doesn't take any longer to put them in the machine, took me 2 hours to get the smell out of the house.
Got loads to do today, have put a steak stew in SC incase I don't get chance to make something later. Much easier that way. Best go get DP up - try to hold my temper in as kids are at home and get cracking with the rest! One day I might be more organised...........

Afternoon :hello:
Well after the insomnia on Thursday night I wasn't particularly tired yesterday - or so I thought. Ran into somebody I hadn't seen for ages at the competition final last night, so we went for a quick drink afterwards (just the one, as the final finished quite late anyway) and I didn't get home until after midnight. Curled up on the sofa and decided to log on to MSE  and the next thing I knew, it was 5am and I'd been fast asleep with my laptop on top of me
Put myself to bed, drew the curtains (obv. getting light by this point) and slept until noon
Got some major tidying up to do today. I'm not going to the market today thanks to my broken fridge already being full of veg which all needs using up  However I also want to go for a walk in the park as the weather is lovely with a bright blue and cloudless sky. I might take some pics of the lake for you if it's looking particularly nice in the sunshine
No plans for the evening :j :j
Hardup Hester - I think you need to have some words with your lodger. It's not fair of her to use up the value of her rent money by abusing your utilities! Maybe do some calculations and show her how much it's costing, and give her a choice of either using the utilities like a "normal" person or paying more rent?
lil_me, I hope OH's passenger had to pay extra
gilly1964, I was going to mention the "busty in the kitchen" thing too, but stefejb beat me to it
I'm always typing "I'm busty" by mistake for "I'm busy"
however in my case it's true :rotfl:
kyle, ((((hugs)))) to DS1.

Hi all!
I'm not really up to posting much atm but been managing to read most days.
Pen Pen - was so sorry to hear about your hens! (((((HUGS))))) Hope the eggs all hatch and that all but one are girls!
Racy Red - thanks for posting the pic of the coots, aren't they lovely! there was a bit on the BBC News the other day about the E. London canals and lots of shots of coots. I wondered if it was "your" canal!
Best wishes to all who have had, are having or are about to have birthdays!
Catznine - I hope you have a great holiday - the time seems to have gone very fast since you said it was 6 weeks away! But perhaps it's seemed slow to you. I'm counting the days down with you!:D
My MIL rang up this morning, she lives in Dover and asked if we'd heard the news - we hadn't had the TV or radio on at all, so she told me about the earthquake (she lives in Dover). It was quite surreal, I felt as if I must be dreaming - hope those of you in the area didn't come to any harm and that your homes are okay! MIL was complaining that her husband was the last of the local family members to ring her to make sure she was okay - er, that would probably be because he's a bus driver (he's much younger than her) and had a busload of terrified passengers to look after! And of course he knew that her children would make sure she was okay. I did feel sorry for her though; she lived on one of Dover's piers during the War as her father looked after one of the gun turrets between WW1 and WW2 so they were still living there throughout WW2, and she said the loud bang this morning was just like the sound a big shell made when it exploded nearby.
Just taken a loaf out of the BM - it's a "sandwich loaf", the first time I've tried that recipe and it looks to have come out very well.:j
We went to the butcher yesterday as we were fed up with supermarket meat and all the extra packaging involved. I bought some lamb chump chops - only two, and they cost the same as the pack of four I'd nearly bought at Asda the day before, but they are almost twice as thick and I bet they'll taste better. Also bought two pork steaks, which we had last night - I fried them and was pleased to see that no "white stuff" came out while they were cooking! And we bought 6 HM beefburgers which are now in the freezer, and a little gammon joint for under £5. Altogether it came to just over £15, which I thought wasn't bad for such good quality meat! I think that as other people on OS have said, if you buy better meat you don't need such a large amount because the flavour's better, so it doesn't work out any dearer. That's what I'm hoping anyway!
I did buy some Jersey Royals in there too though (it's a greengrocer's as well as a butcher's) and they were very dear - at least it's only once a year though! And they were delish!
Off now to see if the loaf's cool enough to slice, and to do a bit of hoovering. Take care all, hope you have a good afternoon!

Afternoon all...........NO I have not just got up, we were away to the lottie by 9.30am to do some badly needed weeding.........looking at the strawberries we should have quite a crop ready when we get back from France, they are flowering like crazy at least 3 weeks early. PLEASE let it rain, we need it so badly............the pidgeons have eaten OH's lettuce, he was so cross, he had put netting over them but they seem to have still pecked them off.
I was hacked off too, something has dug up my lily bulbs from their trough and eaten them........gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I think it must have been the fox, hope he gets belly ache, just how dare he!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moiliere, where are you? was expecting you to be on the doorstep when we got back, lamb is 'ccoking' nicely in its bag of red wine................
Hester............make her pay more for her rent..............
Lovely afternoon, OH has just gone off to play bowls, so I have the afternoon to myself, well what shall I do?????
Am still sleeping well, I put the summer weight duvet on last night......did not get so hot in the night.........
Starting to think about our trip............need to have a bit of a cook up next week, I take as much ready prepared stuff as I can, gives me a rest, but it also means that we can spend out cash on lovely stuff to bring home, wine (of course) coffee, conserve (love the apricot) ham, parmesan cheese, smoked salmon, its sssssssssooooooooo cheap there, olives, bottles of cherries, if I find the supermarche that sells them, cannot just recall the name.........(old age creeping on) my god what do I mean, it has already crept!!!! It is similar to aldi here...........and any other goodies that might tempt me...........oh yes french bread flour. I discovered that if I put a pan of water in the bottom of the oven so it got steamy, I could produce a loaf very like the french bread I adore.........oh yes brie...........also want to look for some herbs for my new herb garden at the lottie.........going to try growing fennel.........I love it roasted or grated in salad.........will look for celariac as well, its makes lovely mash and grated into mayo makes remolade....yummy...
Right off to check my ebay sales and put some fruit into soak to make tea bread tomorrow, haven't had any for ages, I use honey instead of sugar in it, delish.......................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
I love the picture of the coots. Theres a boating lake across the road from me which has loads of ducks and coots, and two nesting swans. The eggs havent hatched yet, but shouldnt be too long now. How do you get put a photo into a post? I would love to share a photo from a couple of years ago.

Hi everyone.
I'm having quite a gentle day today which started with a little lie-in. Then DD1 went off to orchestra whilst DD2 played in her pjs until midday.
DH has gone to do some jobs for his mum and I'm waiting to take DD1 to a birthday party (with a western theme). I'll then take DD2 out on her scooter and find something in the freezer for tea and then everything will stop for...DR WHO.
I might do some ironing if I can motivate myself, but the sun is shining and I'm still looking for my 'get-up-and-go'!
Have a busy/restful day (you choose).:D0 -
Spoke to DP he has to call the college (part of Durham Uni) this student is at on Monday to see if he can get bill for valeting. Car was a complete mess. I have told him in future leave them in the garden or put them in the washing machine!
Well not done a lot, kitchens better, sitting room vacuumed, just realised DS2 has wet through bed last night so all that to clean and get dry!
In the garden earlier, my goodness, I've had a seed explosion! I didn't think my seeds would grow as the last ones haven't so threw the lot in, where I put the lettuce is like a field of green! Will see if the school wants some when I thin them out for their little allotment. Basils done the same, loads of it, pleased I have dehydrator as will not be able to use it all fresh before it dies off.One day I might be more organised...........

Hi all
What a morning.....we left early for a visit to my parents but when we arrived we got frantic phone calls from friends to say there'd been an earthquake - DH and I came back to check everything was ok - no real damage, 5 tiles off from the kitchen, loads of ceiling cracks and stuff had been shaken to the floor.....very lucky - some parts of town are still closed off and lots of chimneys and roofs damaged. They're expecting some quite hefty after shocks in the next 12 hours or so.
Quite glad we missed it - next door neighbours said it was really scarey.
Hope everyone else in this area is ok."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
