Why is it in a cold frame? you'd be better off putting the aubergine in that.
Lettuce will bolt in the sun, when it's hot, when it's stressed and any other reason it can find in the summer.
I grow mine on a bright north facing window in the summer or in the north facing front garden and keep the soil damp always.
Can you find a pot or tub with drainage holes to put it in? then you won't have to worry about it rotting in addition to it bolting.

    the aubergine is too big!!!

It's in the cold frame because to be honest it's the only room I have. And I know about pots with drainage...I'm silly.....oh well.

I'll keep going as I am, and learn for next year!

Sneaks in under cover to say Asda have their grow bags reduced to £1.

They also had 20 litre bags of compost reduced to £1, not quite as good value as 3 x 70 litre bags of compost for £10, but handy if you only need small quantities.

Not sure if this is local or national, but worth a look if your passing, my local had the grow bags and compost in the front foyer.

My cucumbers have full flowers now, with more appearing.

Starting to notice that a few more tomato plants have flowers too.

I'm off for a week now, & have someone on watering duties for me. Hopefully on my return there will be a positive smorgasboard of a bounty in the garden!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

My cucumbers and chillies have gone mad in this weather- my cucumber plant is growing at an average rate of 2 inches a day

But still waiting to see tomatoes instead of flowers. I was late with everything this year but I still want results NOW :rotfl:

Picked my first beetroot today. Plenty more to follow by the looks, too. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Foxy, I'm pleased for you but also jealous of your water melon, my last one from the sowing a few weeks ago is 6" tall so not going to get anything from that. Next year it's going in a large snail proofed container but I doubt we'll have 2 hot summers in a row.

And since I cut the deformed cucumber off my plant it's stopped growing for reasons best know to itself :(

But on a positive note, I ate my first red cherry tomato last night :D and very tasty it was too.

I've started giving away raspberries to neighbours, there's only so many I need in the freezer and my lidl yellow french beans are nearly ready but they're all curved, haven't spotted a straight one yet.

Hubby is fed up eating new potatoes every day in some form or another. I've gone through 7 types so far I think, another 3 new spud buckets to go, then onto the main crop ones, so he may have a brief break.

Watering takes forever at present, tubs in the sun need twice per day and anything in the ground is just OK with once except the thornless blackberries which are covered in mini berries or blossom again :D

Annie I wish I was worthy of your jealousy but I'm not growing a water melon! But I hear what you're saying about watering, it takes me ages morning and night.
