Do you guys think my aubergine will survive in a pot outside, or shall I keep it on the windowsill?0 -

In Yorkshire? Outside, definitely. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
aubergine survived a night out so am risking another. I've also been munching on strawberries today so feeling a bit more positive about things.0

I've eaten a raspberry. I've harvested some more turnips which have been chopped up and frozen. My gooseberries have gone from being unripe to rotting in a couple of days - got to pick them tomorrow or I'll lose the lot. My competition marrow is going very well. My competition aubergine is the same size as it was last month and it will soon find its way onto the compost heap. I've got quite a few tomatoes coming. I've got at least three frogs in my pond. :jIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

The good weather is bringing on the beetroot & the onions I've planted look the best crop I've ever had.
Repotted a few more tomatoes into bigger pots today.
Repotted all the chilli plants too. A couple of chillis have grown an extra inch in 2 days. I also have cucumber flowers forming!
When (time-wise) is peoples recommendations for harvesting beetroot and onions? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I've been eating strawberries for a week or two now, not many, but nice. I have had loads of mange touts from Homebase plants, too many to eat, so some will be frozen, and from not that much area of land, maybe 1.5 square metres, close planted. The norli dwarf mange touts were a massive failure though, not good to eat. I've had a few courgettes, with more to come.
Orange beetroots are doing nicely, earthy tasting, not unpleasant, though I am not sure how best to cook them. Maybe cooked with potato in cream and gruyere? Or roasted alongside some potatoes and onions, perhaps with some rosemary sprigs?
Maskotka bush tomatoes outdoors are nearly ripe, looking to be a success, again. Sungold outdoors are a long way from ripe, still small.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

The second they're ready. I've made this mistake before - don't wait for it to get a bit bigger. If you don't eat it, something else will.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
don't chuck the aubergine away MBE - mine is overwintered from last year so hang on to it.....0

a question!
How often should I be watering my salad? It's in a pot (with no drainage - oops) in a cold frame which is propped open, and at the moment growing nicely. I don't want to overwater it though, or allow it to bolt like last time.
Help....as always.....0 -

Why is it in a cold frame? you'd be better off putting the aubergine in that.
Lettuce will bolt in the sun, when it's hot, when it's stressed and any other reason it can find in the summer.
I grow mine on a bright north facing window in the summer or in the north facing front garden and keep the soil damp always.
Can you find a pot or tub with drainage holes to put it in? then you won't have to worry about it rotting in addition to it bolting.
Went to Hampton Court flower show yesterday (given a free ticket for helping neighbour) my god it was hot there. Not been for many many years and won't be going again any time soon. Bought 2 alpines for the turf roof and thought those were expensive.
Lots of flowers but was disappointed at the lack of interesting or unusual fruit and veg.
Back to shed building today, turf roof supports and guttering I think hubby said.0
