The hot spell has benefitted my tomatoes. I was concerned at the veritable lack of progress they were making, however the heat saturday/sunday/monday has made a fair few pop out!

I really need to repot all the carrots I have.

Got away with a quick mow of the lawns monday before the heavens opened. managed to push all the trimmings into the composters (just). However I have a big tub of weeds I don't know what to do with, as I can't fit them in the composter yet. and in addition, I still have a mammoth weeding task to complete.

My onions seem fine at the mo. When is the right time to fold the leaf things in half to encourage the bulbs to grow?

Still no sign of life from the ginger sadly...

It's probably putting down roots, albeit slowly, as it's not very warm for the time of year.

Wish I'd never started painting. It's not the painting I don't like, it's the mess, and not being able to find anything.

    May I join in,

I used to do a huge amount of gardening mainly growing veg and fruit but over these last few years I've done less and less as other things started to take over.

I have 10 x 4th x 12ft raised beds, many not in use at all, some have strawberries in them and one has overwintering onions. Also quite a large greenhouse mainly used for storage at the moment.

The reason for not doing much over the last few years is that due to a driving accident. My mobility started to suffer and I ended up on two crutches, however less than a week ago I had a hip done ( the other one is booked in for August) so this feels like a new beginning.

I know I won't be up and 'running' until the Autumn but eventually we want to become more self sufficient, live more off the land, spend less at the supermarket, enjoy our hobbies and have more quality of life.

Well that's the ambition, how close I get to it I don't know but just now I feel very positive, so much so I'm thinking of buying a polytunnel and would like know what experience any of you have had with them.

I keep telling myself the same thing, in the hope something will sprout!:o

Getting a little warmer, & due to be warmer this weekend, so I'll keep everything crossed!:)

Well, it's a bit late, but given the circumstances I suppose it'll be ok. :p

Good to hear you're upbeat about getting back into it. I can't help with the polytunnel though, as I've never had one. :o
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I'm going to get this http://www.screwfix.com/p/ryobi-rbc1000ex-1000w-electric-trimmer-230v/36386
To tackle the brambles at the side of mums bungalow, and the long beach grass at the front and rear. Unless anyone knows of a better corded one?
Buying it on Friday so I can try it out on DS's long grass and brambles at the back of his garden first.

Edit: Looks like I'm not buying it, seems to be out of stock at any of the nearby shops. Back to looking.
Annie, they do free next day delivery (allegedly), if ordered online. :o

unfortunately Badrick, it's out of stock for that too.
After looking around I've decided to get a good quality strimmer and clear the brambles the old fashioned way. It's a smallish area and we'll have it done in a few hours.

It's looking nice here this weekend so more weeding, potting on, paint the bird table post etc basically anything I can think of to keep me in the garden on Saturday to supervise downstairs new fencing going up.

Looking around t'internet, it appears in the throes of becoming a discontinued model, shame cos it was a good price.

Question time : I've got a Gojiberry plant/climber, about 3 years old and 5 foot high, has anyone managed any berries off one of these or am I just wasting my valuable wall/growing space?

I have a goji but it was a single twig last year, so no fruit for me yet. They fruit on the previous years growth and from 3 years old, but from reading other forums, year 4 onwards it seems to get some proper fruit.

Not been able to get on here all day using chrome so tried firefox and it's worked. I know you'll all be so relieved :D

They started with the fence on the other side of the garden, then moved on to sanding and painting benches for hours and 20 mins ago started on the little bit that backs onto mine.

Are they removing the rotted fence posts? NO, are they removing the rotted arris rails? NO, are they now cutting down to fit cheap fence panels to attach to said rotted posts and rails? YES!
8' of cheap fence panel nailed onto rotted wood with no support in the middle. It'll be lucky to last 1 winter and is no help with providing support for my toms and squashes. Thinking on it the squashes might bring it down.
They are not short of money so why not get a solid fence put up not done by Wiggy.........anyone remember him or am I showing my age :rotfl:
Pics to follow when my DS gives me back my camera taken on [STRIKE]drinking [/STRIKE]camping trip ;)
