Good news I have parsnips seed leaves
, bad news they're not in the cones
. This I assume is due to the cats using the area as a toilet when first done.
:T:T:T:T:T:T for the leaves.
I had some missing from where I thought 2 cones were so I gently removed 2 from others where there were 2 or 3 and transplanted them. Don't know if it will work, never done it before. I did grow some in toilet roll sleeves last year and they were OKish.
Main thing I need to do is get some Beetroot seed in and my Runner Beans out which are now almost 18"tall and a second lot now through about 1 1/2"but we now have a sharp heavy shower.0 -
Thanks John. I've moved 3 seeds and sown fresh in the others. The soil is much warmer now than even a few weeks ago so shouldn't take as long this time.
My cucumber has not only survived 5c it's growing and has flowers. My early watermelon outside how ever has all but died, but I'm not surprised.
My rosemary finally has little flower buds on, weeks behind everyone elses I've spotted.
My runners are just breaking through at last, and I still have french beans. Last year 1" tall munched, this year they're going for the courgette, probably because it's the only one out in it's final position and they usually have a choice of several by now.
The wind has blown all the blossom off my cherry tree, should get some cherries as there were loads of bees out on it last Monday.
What a difference a week makes; cold, damp, windy and gray today, last Monday, wall to wall sunshine and 22c, oh and the mother in law with me all day and night so couldn't get on with anything :mad:0 -
Lovely day out yesterday, to the Malvern Show. Got a few plants but mostly came home with food. Cheese, mostly.
I seem to have inadvertently acquired a melon too. Three, actually, although I can't remember what sort they were.Got some strawberries they were flogging off cheap at the end, so I'd best get working on that planter.
I'm away from Thursday to Tuesday though, as my mate's getting married in Santorini, so sadly I've got to go out there to watch. Oh well, someone's got to do it I suppose.:j
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I loved the Malvern show when I lived in the midlandsTreat other's how you like to be treated.

I potted on some tomato seedlings at weekend and the french beans have come through, about 2" tall now. Runner beans have rotted off - I seem to remember this happening before when I used toilet roll tubes so sowed more but in peat pots this time. The blossom out on my apple cordons but so cold and blustery i doubt there are many bees about. Hopefully this weekend I will plant up my courgette seedlings which seem to be romping away in the greenhouse.Books - the original virtual reality.

ooer who sent me the hurricane :rotfl:
Winds here have been verging on ridiculous! It's always windy anyway but I've never known it this bad sulking now.Maybe it wasn't a good idea to buy a tall tree!
It's been a bit wet too,all the low growing stuff is doing fine as is the greenhouse bits but I had to bring the tomatoes under cover I'd put out in tubs as they'd have just been shredded.
I've seen a few reports in the papers it's going to be a repeat of last year with the jetstream blocked again so trying to remember what went well where and when I put stuff out.
I have flowers on my cukes in the greenhouse though and the first tub of summer cut and come again is ready. The carrots in the rose pots are doing better than the ones in the raised bed too.
My tall peas are hanging on for dear life and have had to wire them in everywhere as they are down the side in the 'windtunnel'.
Runners and climbing french beans are twining up the side of the greenhouse still as I daren't put them out yet.
My melons are looking fab though Annie)

Having just read the BBC monthly weather report I may sow some rice and get the courgette brolly out again and knit it a jumper too this year!
I have never known a monthly weather forecast existed, thank you Annie, you've just made my day. For once the weather here will be improving over the next couple of weeks, so I should be able to get the toms and cucs out for June. Thank God! I thought winter was never ending.
After the inspiration provided by D&DD yesterday, I decided to sow some broccoli. Don't normally bother with brasiccas as they take up to much space in the square foot gardens. I decided to plant a couple through the beds an the front along with beans and peas up the walls and see how things go. The soil at the front is quite heavy clay, but I mulched it with manure in the winter so hopefully it'll be ok. I might include one or two in pots too. I love broccoli.0 -
Haven't been about much - apols for that.
Haven't done much to be honest! Planted another batch of lettuce, but that is pretty much all!
I have some toms that have sprouted, but there appears to be fewer than in previous years. I've got a 2nd lot in. Things seem to be very slow this year.
In need to thin out my carrots asap, and also some beetroot & cucumbers need repotting when I have spare time. It's just having the time!
Got roped into a decorating job at the weekend that was bigger than planned, & an extra coat of paint is needed tonight, so little chance of acheiving anything before the weekend!
Wish the weather would improve. Looks like a wet month.
PS MrBE appears to be very part time this year. Seems to be off every weekend.
Perhaps this should be a help annie grow her dinner thread?;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

As D&DD said the most amazing wet and windy day again, with heavier rain to come later, so I'm painting the bedroom furniture instead of pottering. Not a lot else to do with out planting things in their final positions as I need the pots and the hardening off space for other things.lemonjelly wrote: »Perhaps this should be a help annie grow her dinner thread?;)
:rotfl: love it, yes even after 30+ years of growing I still need help and I do waffle on more than BME, but then I'm a woman so I can0 -

Cheeky git. You want to be careful I don't [STRIKE]throw you out[/STRIKE] get Annie to throw you out!
Just a bit busy, that's all. Plus nothing's doing much because it's cold and wet. I have got some tomato flowers appearing though. I've got to go and pot lots of things on in preparation for my days away. Need to leave it all neat for my mate to water.
Managed to nip out last night and mow the lawn between the raindrops, as by the look of the forecast I won't get another chance before I go.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
