I may be brave and pull out the growing tip from Audrey the Aubergine this weekend. How tall do you think it should be before I do it?

    1". :p..........
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Decided to stop lurking and post occasionally MrBE - I hope that's okay?

Hmm, my Audreys are over a foot tall, but I didn't know to pinch out the growing tips..

My tomatillo's have flowered! Not sure, but Alys Fowler says you need more than one to set fruit, so since I forgot to open the greenhouse today I have dabbed pollen across from each flower to another. Never grown them before but Huge Furry Whatisface has a lovely looking chutney recipe that uses them and we like salsa, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Planted Kohl Rabi as MBE recommended them - germination seems very slow for a "fast growing" crop (according to the seed packet) what's the norm?

    Morning :D
Bit breezy here this A.M but thankfully no gales yet! Hoping they don't get this far as I haven't staked a few bits just yet.
Enjoyed a wonderful visit with Annie yesterday it's just so nice when someone understands what you're doing and doesn't think you're [STRIKE]too[/STRIKE] weird lol...

Have lots to do today so hoping the sun stays out a bit longer it's trying!

Off to the shops and walk the dog first but I'm itching to get out there.
Hope everyone's weather is still good we've had a bit of rain finally so expecting everything to really start motoring now

I got some kohl rabi this year on your recommendation too MBE, but I forgot all about them...do you think I'm to late to sow them in not-so-sunny-Scotland?

Not too late at all. They grow quite quickly, so you've plenty of time. My seeds say sow until July.

Well the weather has been rubbish yesterday and today and is supposed to be for next 5 days :(
I've been down the allotment on my lunch to water the greenhouse and omg everything has shot up!!
The kids went a little wild last weekend and had sown dozens of seeds they put about 35 sweet corn seeds in and 33 of them are at least 3.5" tall some bigger not sure what I'm going do with them as not supposed go out yet
I allowed them to chuck a full pack of rhubarb seeds in thinking they wouldn't grow and they have all sprouted
Their pumpkins are going steady as are the cucumbers the water melon seeds are about 3" tall as are the sunflowers
Tomatos We have 2 gardeners delight, 7 marmande, about 12 black cherry, 8 plum ones and another set of 6 that I can't remember the name of
The strawbs are flowering and the blueberries are coming. My pear tree is covered in blossom
I put mange tout, peas, runner beans and broad beans in (the peas and runner beans are no shows) I have put the 3rd lot of French beans in on my windowsill and they are growing nice I'm well impressed as I have failed to grow them the last 2 years
Sorry for rambling ;) hope everyone is well

Well revealed the legs at work and ... yes ... it poured down with rain! Good in a way, I was only saying to OH at weekend that the pond was definitely 4 inches below par. Tadpoles wriggling about and our dog spotted the frogs so she was on watch all afternoon. Need to get pot ready for courgettes at weekend which are coming on fine on kitchen windowsill. Also need to put growbags in greenhouse to warm up. I thought about trying two bags (ie one on top of another) this year to see if this increases yields. Anyone tried this or am I wasting my money?

I've not tried that but it might be worth cutting the bags in half and standing them on their ends, which will give you the extra depth you're after. ;)

I had a great time too D&DD and came away with a lot more than I gave. Gawd knows where it's all going, but I'll find space. And I'm now out of every scrap of compost so need to get a bag tomorrow so I can sow the seeds I was given too.

Anyone who thinks they can't squeeze in any more should see her garden, small but packed full, very productive and attractive looking too. I'm going to rethink my planting again.

Will be adding a lot more to my sons garden as he needs free food; he lost his job yesterday :( hopefully he can find something very quickly as the bank of mum and dad can't afford his bills too.

The wind and rain today has almost flattened my poor rhubarb, and I had to bring in all my toms in larger pots to get them out of the wind, looked like they were going to snap. The smaller ones are under cover so they're OK.

TIP for aubergine growers ;); NO pinching out aubergines 'till 12" tall and mine are no where near that yet.
