I must confess I didn't think we'd win by that much. I definitely want to grow leeks now.0

England were poor.
Well, I've made a kind of start. Turned the garden today, & tidied the patio area. I'll finish off clearing the rubbish this week. I'll also order replacement covers for the greenhouses. I'll buy compost & do planting of seeds next weekend. Allegedly...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Having said that Mr Z has made me 11 raised beds, I have a greenhouse and a very large fruit cage. I have onions, rhubarb, white, black and red currants growing and loads and loads of strawberries.
Hello and welcomeand if that's what you've got now, gawd knows how much you had before  I hope you make as swift a recovery as possible.
It hasn't stopped raining here for days and when it does stop I'm not here to run out and plant my spuds  I have a few hours tomorrow morning and unless is hammering down I'm putting at least the swift in, probably in buckets rather than the ground as that's still too wet, they'd rot.
Pinched a disposable shower cap from DD (apparently they're used for spray tanning) and I'm going to put it over the bucket to see if it keeps the local cats off them.
As I put a brolley over my courgette last year a shower cap on the spuds doesn't seem that daft0 -

Quite a normal sight in your garden I think! I love the idea of a really personal garden, filled with little surprises. Plant-protecting umbrella's seem to me to be a perfect start.
The weather here is persistently cold and wet at the weekend when I have time to do stuff, and then mild and sunny in the middle of the week when I am working
Sunday morning I sowed my first seeds of the year. All my windowsills are full and the airing cupboard is hopefully doing some magic with my tomato seeds. Last year I bought tomato plants, so I'm nervous about giving the seeds the right conditions. So, seeds in now are 3 varieties of tomato, cucumbers, mange tout, french beans, lettuce and some flowers. I'll sow more french beans and mange tout outside when the weather is better to try and stagger the crop.
Now dreaming of a bigger garden so I can have a potting shed and not have to wreck the kitchen0 -
I'm happy, I have some spuds in pots at last
only another 12 varieties to plant
but it's a start.
Having taken a spade to the soil I would say needs a week of dry weather to dry out or it'll rot whatever goes in but it's been a really damp and grey winter, even my south facing white painted low brick wall has moss on it. Not had that before.
My gooseberry is showing signs of life, so are the raspberries and the buds on the little apple tree are just waiting for for some sun so they can burst open.
Plenty of weeds growing I noticed, so that's Saturdays job if it's dryish. Don't mind drizzle, just can't do wind chill sub zero temps and 'makes you soggy' rain.0 -

The only bad thing was the M4 being closed to the English trying to get back home cos the wheels had come off the charriots.:):):):):):):):):) cracker of a game though ~ and as a rugby fan myself I must say the atmosphere in Cardiff was electric - fantastic. Quite a few broken chariot's needed avoiding on the way back to the station though......although the train to Swansea were singing the anthem nicely 90% of the journey. Cymru Am Byth indeed
Anyway..............
now the proud owner of 400 pea seeds, 3200 carrot seeds, 5 cucumber seeds, 5 charlotte potatoes chitting, 1000 lettuce seeds, 10 tumbling tom seeds, 40 cherry tomato seeds, 700 spring onions, 460 radishes, 3000 cress seeds, 2 cress hedgehogs for the kids and a pepper pot................if this all grows I may need recipe ideas............. :-) and we have divided them into things to sow indoors and things to sow outdoors.
Also my partner has quite a few builders merchant bags that he has kindly let me have to half fill with compost and use as a raised bed after a friend of mine showed me a picture of her poly tunnel and thats what she has used.
Only fair since I have them sitting about and Country wide has 100l of multi purpose compost for £6.99 and my partner works next door to it - well he said he needed a workoutTime to find me again0 -

Looks like I won't be planting any spuds until after Easter, when it's supposed to warm up a bit. I don't think there's much at all I can do before then.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

I'm off to the allotment tomorrow for the first time, I'll take some pictures. I guess I just... dig it up? :rotfl: Clueless doesn't even cover it...Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

I'm going to sound like a broken record - we have snow. Again.0
