    Lessons from last year:

    1. I HATE slugs!!!!! I am a mass murderer...
    2. I HATE too much rain!!
    3. I give up too easily.

This year things are going to go better. I wasn't sure I was going to bother but the OH bought me some sticks, which are apparently the beginnings of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry bushes. I think he forgets I need to grow in containers, although I am 4th on the allotment list.

    Hope everyone is well :)

  • I'm off this week. I'm going to fettle in the garden at some point. There may be pictures. Off to see friends for a few days first though while I still sulk.

I cannot wait to get started either went to Aldi yesterday and got some bamboo canes, some fertiliser and some love small daffodils. My lovely friends have spent two days on the greenhouse just need the glass now.

I am really happy with it cannot wait to start using it. Lawn looks a mess but hopefully it will recover. Also planted my rhubarb (got from friend who has left the country) covered it in straw you can see the wigwam behind the greenhouse. Dug a load of old roots out and filled the hole with manure and compost so fingers crossed it doesn't mind its moved across the road.

Hope you have sunshine where you are.

PS I got my redundancy package I am pleased with it and it means I don't leave for the next 2 to 3 months. I shall be working part time but paid full time so plenty of time for job hunting and gardening.

I brought my chillies indoors last year because it was so bad outside and the poor things became infested by aphids.

I stick them in the shower!

IMHO chillies have a better yield if overwintered. They will look a bit sorry and get attacked by aphids (just shower off, or squash!) but soon come back to life if left on a sunny windowsill.

A friend told me that to keep slugs at bay he strips out the copper from old electrical appliances and wraps it round the pots that he uses...as he doesnt like a big strip of copper round his pots.

He says that it has worked so far and looks far less intrusive than the copper tape.

    Hope this helps

each to their own, I really like the look of the sticky back copper tape. plus I know its stuck on well and forming a curcuit so they'll get a nice electric shock as they try to get to my lettuces!

and I hate too much rain.

Got my Charlotte seed potatoes chiting but that's it so far. I do cheat though, owning a garden centre means I get to pick more or less what ever i like already growing, and my suppliers are always giving me trial products to test :D

I too grow in pots our soil is pure sand.

I am trying, not saying that it will work, to germinate peppers, cucumbers etc in kitchen roll in ziplock bags. I have hung the bags with a clothes peg to a string of fairy lights and taped the bags to the wall so the lights arent directly touching. As I said, I don't know if this will work but I have enough seed here to try it so if it doesn't work shall just wait a bit longer to sow in the cold frame instead as I have tiny window and rubbish light and no heat mats etc. I read that some people put them on top of their fridges but I have zero heat on top of mine. I shall post if it works or doesn't
that sounds complicated. I think I'll just sulk and wait.

Do you have a central heating radiator near a window? I put a slim seed tray on mine for chillies and seeds that need heat.

There's always perks to a job :) I'm very jealous!

I've got everything ready to start sowing, might have a potter round the garden today, need to evict the spiders from the blow away! Very confused about the sticks... (raspberry, blueberry and blackberry) not quite sure what to do with them!

We've had a nice day today, so I've been out and had a good old tidy up. Not much else though. I need to raise one of my beds another level so it'll take the contents of the tubs & pots. It should also improve drainage, and if this year's anything like last year, it'll need it.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
