Count me in, this is my 3rd year growing veggies, 2nd year on an allotment and currently moving allotments. Spending every available hour trying to weed and get the beds ready and all sectioned out then it will be planting seeds I'm hoping for less rain/slugs this year I have lots to be getting on with. I have a chilli plant that has survived on my kitchen window over winter and is starting to produce already
can't wait for warm weather and hopefully to produce more edible produce this year

Hello! Long time reader of MSE forum, I finally took the plunge and registered today. I possess no patience at all and so have sown quite a few veggie seeds already, loosely following the sowing dates on the packs. Early bird, worm and all that. I am very lucky to have a conservatory so they're all snuggly in there at the mo and will transfer them to greenhouse when it warms up a bit. I have always had a go at veg growing but in a haphazard way, bunging it in the ground wherever but this year i have decided to do it in an organised fashion and have a little patch 8' by 10' earmarked for veg plus greenhouse, growbags & pots. I have used the planner tool on Dobies website to plan out my little plot so I know whats going where & when and with the advice of you experts on here think it's gonna b a great gardening year! Cant wait to get going properly!:rotfl:0

Excellent. Nice to see some new names and lurkers unlurking.
I have things growing:
Overwintered chilli "Big Jim", spuds chitting, propagator propagating, and a few things that have sprouted already.
Last year I had a towbar fitted and bought a little trailer. Today I have been out and filled it with well rotted 'oss muck. I plan on dumping it in a big pile and growing my prize-winning marrow on it. I suppose I ought to check whether this is the right thing to do...:whistle:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
We have a day off today so going down the allotment for few hours
we make plans to do so much each visit anything above that a bonus

Day off work today, and I've put it to good use. Got the raised bed built up another level, so it will accommodate all the contents of last year's tubs and pots. Most of these were filled with the sieved soil I saved from digging the pond.
I found this to be quite clayey, and the bottom of the tubs was horribly soggy. I should have put some crocks or stones in to assist drainage, but because I haven't needed them before, I didn't bother. That might explain why everything I tried to grow in tubs was rubbish.
However, it should be nice and high in nutrients, so now it's on the raised bed and blitzed up with the Mantis drainage shouldn't be so much of an issue. I think this year I'll be growing beetroot, carrots, turnips and parsnips in this bed:
I barrowed round all the horse manure from the trailer out the front:
So hopefully that's the marrow catered for. I plan on using some of it for my spuds, and sticking the marrow on top of what's left. Or fetching more if necessary.
Got more tidying up done. I need to get the pressure washer out and go over the greenhouse inside and out, and clean up the paths a bit. I'm nearly ready for 2013 though. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I was also rather chuffed to find this young slow worm:
Used to see them regularly in Kent when I were a lad, but never seen one in the Midlands before. I'd like to think it's because of the efforts I've made to keep the cats out.
They eat slugs. I hope there's more of them.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Ohhhh, a shiny new thread! I didn't see it crop up. Fully intend to have another bash this year, got a lot of fun out of growing in the garden last year, despite the wet and slugs. Have ordered seeds so need to keep an eye on them for sowing times. Peppers are overwintering on the windowsill... well, actually I have two small peppers already growing, bit unexpected. Need to get outside soon for a little weeding.
Hope you are all well, looking forward to the season ahead0 -
