  • hey kats thats what happened in the last 6 months, no my nana had it for about 5 years if i remember right but went into home when started to affect her.. (3 and half years ago)
my mam and dads not bothered about telling the £270 they got as they at that time didnt know what was happening with fees etc theyl be able to see about them calling up this week and discovering where the money came from and getting the figures from social services DWP etc, weve been on phone none stop the last week .
they are going to tell the whole lot..
Anne needs to be accountable for this, she has abused her trust and to be honest were pleased that its actually against social services as they will defiantly pursue it!
i just hope she gets whats coming to her...
  • erm we dont know to be honest , social services wouldnt really give us much info apart from that she paid £400 a month and the account was all upto date... apart from a £149 bill from years ago that there chasing her to get back.they wouldnt tell us anymore, and to be honest didnt see a problem, thats why mam rang DWP as we thought it may be the case she was claiming for money thats not hers and again they said no, that nana was entitled to it, but when we rang the home to see what she paid they said they never received anything directly from her. they got paid from social services... x

When your Gran went into the home , her address would have changed via Adult Social services, this information would have been passed to the DWP. There is no way they would have continued to subsidise her if she was still being paid disability allowance.
All these benefits stop once someone is in a care home apart from attendance allowance if the person is self funding.
Do you know how much the full fees per week were? Do you know how much per week your Nan had to pay on top from her income?
    You have to start there.
Sorry .. my dads fees were £520 per month subsidised.
I think your Nan had assets that had not been declared.
    xx

One other thought ... did you gran receive a private pension or pensions from her late husband ?
  • no private pension and i dont think there was any money from grandas pension possibly tho, the other aunite (the nice one) is phoning tonight so will ask her, as i say we all were not in contact really until nana passed so dont know the full ins and outs of money etc. only what we have discovered this week from SS and DWP.
SECURITY: well when my mam rang them and thought there was fraud they didnt seem bothered they looked through file and said she was entitled to it?! which is crazy as i say my partner only earns £300 a week. im sure my mam said £70 of it was DAL. thats what they told her anyway. x

Power of Attorney ceases when someone dies. Did your nana leave a will and has it gone to probate. ? If she did leave a will do you know the executors are ? Sorry to complicate things further for you.
