Slightly confused here, so you're saying avoid Bott & Co if I decide to go down that route if ADR reject my claim??

No. Avoid claims companies that aren't legal firms.
Botts aand EUClain re both legal firms with an interest and expertise in flight delay claims.
Other claims firms (non legal) have caused problems passt and present.

Looking for advice if I've a leg to stand on here - we've had a flight cancelled today whilst we were in security; resulting in a few hundred people descending on some overwhelmed staff at the baggage desk. In the chaos, they've advised booking other flights, mentioning skyscanner, and EJ will cover it.

We managed to book a flight a few days later, again with EJ while we were at the airport and have come home to do the admin. Now, since we didn't technically 'transfer' our flight, EJ will not pay the difference only refund the original, significantly cheaper, flights.

I've tried getting them to pay the difference on chat but they user I'm speaking to is maintaining there is "no way" this can be done. How would I escalate this? And would I have a case if I do? AFAIK it's a right to have the flight transferred, and it was their staff (not blaming the individual, they were clearly thrown in at the deep end with the situation) that steered us in the direction of booking ourselves.

    OK, welcome.
    There are 2 issues here.
    Firstly,
Under reg 261/2004, you have a right to re-routing, using an alternative airline if necessary, at a time tht is convenient to you. Is the alternaative EJ flight several days from now the only flight/airline that is available?
If not you have the right to go on an alternative airline, at EJs expeense. EJ should book and pay for this, but they won't. You will have to claim it back off them. Be prepared for a wait, CEDR and possible legal action.
What you were told about refund only is complete BS.

I would advise NOT taking any refund at this stage as EJ will try to wassh their jhjands of you.

You will also need to check that your return flight (if applicable) is still valid.

Can I ask why you didn't go online and transfer your flights on the EJ website directly?

Seecondly, depending on the reason for the cancellation, you may be due compensation seperate from your re-routing costs.
If you give us all the info - flight route/number, times/dates etc and what your were told about the canceellation we maybe able to help more.

Hey, thanks for the response - the flight # was EZY7103, from Liverpool to Madrid.

Honestly, I'm asking myself the same thing - now that I'm removed from the situation I would have been better off trying to use the app. But with the situation we were put in to (our first notification that the flight was off was a text message whilst queueing at the security gate), and the dash that followed to speak to a human from the company we ended up having hundreds of people descend on 2 members of staff at the bag drop off scrolling through Sky Scanner, and they were having to deal with 3 or 4 people at a time each - so the messages were totally mixed. Some people were being told to transfer to Monday (we were halfway through this process at one point before things changed again), others that there were flights today from alternate airports, and that EJ would pay if we booked ourselves - so that's what we decided to do.

I expected, as you mention, that we would have to book again at our expense then claim back (through whichever hoops they want us to jump through). But we weren't funnelled towards using the app to do a transfer particularly well, just to book again - and because mine has ended up being another EJ, they're trying to get out of it claiming I should have used the transfer option.

As I said, their excuse is BS. Did you get a reason for the very short notice cancellation?

I was told that the plane that was due to take us never came in from its previous flight, though I heard that from another disgruntled customer and not a member of staff. Is there anywhere I can use the flight information to check/confirm that?

I would just get your claim in for compensation, €250 per passenger.

There are 2 calim forms on EJ website - one for additional expenses- your additional flights and a seperate one for your compensation claim.
Someone maybe able to check on flightradar what happened to your flight on the previous rotation.

We’ve experienced a disappointing end to our Crete holiday when our easyJet return flight to Gatwick was cancelled at close to midnight. Reason given was U.K. weather (heatwave I guess) and a fellow passenger said he’d heard pilot crew had exceeded flying hours. On discovering no easyJet flights for at least 72 hours, screen grabbed from easyJet’s flight app, I went ahead and booked a Tui one way flight for three adults at a cost of €650 including baggage that I’d found on SkyScanner.
We also had to book an overnight stay we were fortunate to find, costing €123 for a family room, plus taxis totalling €50 (no receipts)
I’ve gathered mobile screen capture evidence to prove the lack of easyJet flights for the next 2 days back to Gatwick but want to know how certain my flight will be refunded?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Daglish,

There were two major problems at LGW over the last few days, NATS software fault and severe weather (storms rather than heat).

I suggest you claim the difference in ticket prices plus your first nights hotel and breakfast costs back from Easyjet via their website. This will be the additional costs incurred due to the delay.

It will be very difficult to claim anything back if you do not have receipts for that item.

I don't think you can claim EU261 compensation due to these causes being 'extraordinary'.

    Good luck.
