I suspect from now on any time a flight is delayed the passengers won't be told the reason at the time so the airline can try to wriggle out of it later.

Or they will always say it's an ATC decision - I suppose technically ATC are always involved.

Yeah Airtraffic wouldn't let them leave cos the door wouldn't close so it's ATCs fault :T

  • Hi, last May I was due to fly to Newcastle from Tenerife and was delayed 5 1/2 hours. The flight before ours had been diverted to Dublin due to a medical emergency. Also because of the length of delay in Dublin the crew had to be replaced as they wouldve gone over permitted flying hours. Another delay waiting for another crew to fly to dublin to continue the flight to Tenerife. All in all instead of taking off at 15.30 we had to wait till 21.00. Jet2 dragged their heels until months later contacting me refusing any compensation. The CAA told me they wouldnt pursue my case as it wasnt in their juristiction. I want to go further but would the fact that the flight was delayed by a knock on effect from a "medical emergency" make my claim pointless?
  • Looks like a valid claim to me. Read Vaubans guide and go from there
  • I can't see how Newcastle is not in their jurisdiction. But they were pretty unhelpful to me until really pushed.

I've just been turned down as they say my flight was delayed 2 hours 59 mins. I have no proof how long our delay was how can I check? I'm sure it was longer but no sure how I can go back to them without proof or is this just a normal tactics.

We were also sat on the Tarmac for a while in Venice due to strike by baggage handling so so no bus to take us to the terminal.

Have you checked on Flightstats (not legally binding) but this will give you an indication? Delay period is calculated when first plane door opens upon landing so baggage handling/bus problem has no bearing on length of delay.

Thanks I've posted flight details, the flight was delayed in Leeds due to engine problems they flew in a part and engineer but eventually they found another plane. We received a voucher for £5 each in the airport to get a drink etc.

Then when we arrived in Venice as we were parked up on the runway they wouldn't open the doors until the steps arrived, which was due to groups staff strike.

Well presume you checked flightstats which is not conclusive in respect of the delay period (which has nothing to do with expected departure time by the way) so you now have two more avenues to pursue 1) try Bott & Co (free) page to see if you have probable claim and 2) try libhomeradar >http://www.libhomeradar.org/databasequery/ ....
Normally doors are opened for ACARS prior to steps arriving and this opening time triggers the records for your flight.
