Im just interested is there anywhere independant i can find the official reason for the delay?
Just a quick update...
Filled the form in on the MSE recommended complaint resolver on Sunday.
Had the resolution today from Ryanair that they are paying £1094 (250 euros per person) into our bank account within 10 days.
Not bad considering our flights for the 5 of us return, were just over £1200 with luggage & seat reservations as well.0 -
I completed the online form for reimbursement of rerouting and Ryanair has sent me a letter advising it was outwith their control due to ATC strike. They have said they have reimbursed original flight costs. What is my next step please to get the difference back for rerouting? There are no appeal details in the letter and I have screenshots from live chat advising me to reroute myself.0

You'll have to keep pestering them or go the legal route.0

Thanks. Live chat were useless and I was redirected to the contact form page. I finally found a screen on the "Complaints - General" section which allowed me to send a message.
If I have to go the legal route, which would be the best no win no fee outfit to use?0 -
Good afternoon all,
I need guidance regarding a specific aspect of a compensation claim from Ryanair.
Two days ago, my return flight from Porto to London was delayed by over five hours. The new expected departure time was close to midnight (per an automated text from a few hours later, the flight was subsequently cancelled), and the only alternative Ryanair could offer was an early morning flight the next day.
As I really needed to be in London on the same day, I decided to buy a last-minute ticket from an alternative airline.
My question is: when claiming compensation, do I claim the €200+ for the long delay, or does my decision to reroute via another airline (rather than take the next-day flight) mean I can only claim a ticket price refund? I wouldn't be so pernickety under normal circumstances, but the last-minute ticket was (understandably) considerably expensive, and I only bought it because there were no other same-day options. I only learned about the original flight being cancelled after I'd already landed in London (the automated text was sent while I was in flight).
The guidelines on the Ryanair website seem to imply - I'm possibly reading it wrongly - a mutual exclusivity: either one claims for the long delay (but takes the original flight/alternative) or one chooses to reroute (my case) and claims for a refund; so I'm not sure how to approach it.
Thanks in advance for any advice!0 -
Hi All,
I flew Ryanair on 1st June from Manchester to Berlin (FR1145). We were officially delayed 4hr 6mins according to Ryanair (email they sent).
Anyways, I claimed through Resolver and they have stated the delay was due to adverse weather conditions (lightning storm in Berlin). And as this delay was unexpected and therefore outside Ryanair!!!8217;s control we regret to advise that no monetary compensation is due under EU Regulation 261/2004.
So I'm wondering what are my options here?
The whole delay was an absolute shambles.
We were already delayed 1hr 30mins when the flight came up on the screens and said to proceed to gate 54. When at the gate the Ryanair staff said that this was wrong as the inbound flight hadn't even left Berlin yet - the tv screen continued to say go to gate as well.
When we finally did board the plane it was a little over 3hrs after the scheduled departure time. We then sat on the plane for about an hour waiting to get refueled.
The pilot apologised for the delay and said it was due to bad weather over Germany and staff shortages.
When we arrived in Berlin Schonefeld we then sat on the plane for another 45mins waiting for a bus to take us to the terminal.
So therefore it was roughly a 5hrs delay by time we got off the plane in Berlin.
What are my options here? Should I push on with the claim?
What is the likelihood of them paying out considering they said it was due to adverse weather conditions?0 -

Without legal action, probably close to nil. IMO it is unlikely that your case qualifies for EU compensation but it's not clear cut since it sounds like the adverse weather conditions were primarily to the incoming aircraft. You may get a sympathetic small claims court judge.0 -

Rerouting in itself does not take away the right to compensation so it really depends on how long you were delayed and what the reason for the delay was.0 -
romaness - welcome.
Firstly download Vauban's good guide - full of useful information.
1. You should be able to claim the additional cost of your alternative flight, rather than get a refund. I wouldn't say anything about the timings of the cancellation information (unless pushed). In your claim say the flight was delayed then cancelled and the alternative offered wasn't convenient for you. This is covered under regulation 261/2004 - re-routing.
Or you could get a refund and claim the full cost, but i think the 1st option is probably less complicated.
2. You maybe due compensation in addition to and separate from, the rerouting costs, depending on the reason for the long delay/cancellation. See Vauban's guide. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
