    Sixth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    Hi Matt15,

I doubt it, given the circumstances you describe. Your wife seems to have opted to have the original ticket price refunded. In that case...

"However, where an air carrier can demonstrate that when the passenger has accepted to give his or her personal contact details, it has contacted a passenger and sought to provide the
assistance required by Article 8, but the passenger has nonetheless made his or her own assistance or re-routing arrangements, then the air carrier may conclude that it is not responsible for any additional costs the passenger has incurred and may decide not to reimburse them."

Did your wife ask RA to re route her ASAP via another airline?

If she did, there is an argument that they should have done so.

    Good luck.

I was caught up in the ryanair flight cancellations in September, I was offered a different flight to my original destination but it was a day earlier, I have lodged my claim through resolver for the EU261 refund along with my other out of pocket expenses, which included an extra night in a premier inn, a breakfast & a dinner, all for 2 people & all for a total of £190, which I think is extremely reasonable considering it was in Central London. I received a cheque for £440 which was the EU262 amount for 2 people, but hence repeated emails regarding our other expenses, I am at a loss as to what I should do next. I feel that I am being completely ignored. My work colleague who was in the exact same circumstances as me received her full claim including her expenses, so why make a difference. I have complained through their complaints page & it states that the case has been sent for payment & I will receive payment in 28 working days. This was 2 months ago, Please advise as to what I should do next?

Sorry if I don't understand, but why would you be claiming accommodation if you flight left a day earlier? Accommodation is claimable under 261/04 when your flight has been delayed, necessitating an extension of your stay.

I had not planned to go a day earlier, but this was the only other option at the time with ryanair, please remember this was the very first cancellations & with less than 2 days notice, we could not afford to fly with another airline at such short notice & we were not made aware until later that ra would refund the cost of flying with another airline. We had no choice but to fly earlier withryanair as this was the only availability into the chosen airport that week. Also as we were flying a day earlier we did need somewhere to sleep. Flying a day earlier is necessitating an extension of our stay, as we had originally planned on staying 4 nights not 5.

Sure I understand that you felt you didn't have an option but to take the earlier flight, but the problem you have is with this:

You didn't need to stay in a hotel the night before your flight - that was your choice. So this is not claimable under the Regulation.

I’m sorry but I think you are misunderstanding me, we arrived at our destination a day earlier than expected so we need to stay in our hotel an extra night, we did not stay in a hotel before our flight

OP did need to sleep somewhere on the first night at their destination though which was unplanned until they were re-booked onto the same flight 24 hours before ;)

Phew..... thanks ckhalvashi for clearing that up, original departure date was Monday 18th of September, we were notified by text on Friday 16th September at 8pm of the cancellation, we rebooked through RA for a flight on Sunday 18th of September, which meant we arrived in London a day earlier so we had the added expense of another night in London which was unplanned.

Just re-check your dates as that can't be right.

I fully believe everything you've said as I know people in similar positions (I live not far from Ryanair's biggest base), however I believe the original flight was the 19th or the re-booked flight was the 17th, from what you've said it has to be one of those two.

I believe you can claim for the additional night however this isn't my area of expertise when it comes to airlines and would appreciate someone else confirming it.

ETA: It appears from this article that you can claim as long as the accommodation wasn't excessive or any additional expenses for meals etc.

This is mainly covering delays though and not the additional night you had to spend in London.

Sorry our original departure date was Monday 18th & rebooked flight was Sunday 17th. Can someone please tell me what to do now that RA are ignoring me? Our accommodation & food came to £190 for both of us for the extra night, so this is certainly not unreasonable in my opinion
