  • Hi Ryan Air cancelled my flight via text just hours before the time of travel on 14th September from Leeds to Montpellier (I was travelling by car from Newcastle!!) I was forced to purchase an alternative flight that day from Newcastle to Montpellier via Paris at great expense as needed to arrive that day to start a new job!. In the following day I activated my refund online and received that promptly. I also completed the online template for compensation the following day and sent to Ryan Air. One month later I do not have any acknowledgment of the original request or indeed an update to the status of this request. I have sent another letter to them to ask them to pay the compensation for the amount I have paid for the second flight, again without acknowledgement or result. I am just wondering, given how busy they must be right now!!! how patient should I be and how long does compensation take? Am I being Naïve and do I have a fight on my hands??

    Hi Shegsy,

Thats long enough, I'd attempt to phone them or email for one last time. At the mo they are no1 on the CAA's radar, so it's hard to predict if they will fight this.

Then it's time to start reading up on what to do next if they don't want to play ball. Reading back through this thread will give you some ideas and a feel for how they deal with compensation requests.

Your options will then be to refer your claim to RA's adr provider/partner, the retail ombudsman I believe, or start legal proceeding against them, you can read Dr Watsons comprehensive guide, just go to post 569 on the Ryanair thread to read how to sue them safely.

    Good luck.

Or Shegsy, you can try posting on Twitter on the Ryanair page. Some people affected by this fiasco have had some success in getting a response from them via Twitter after having sat patiently waiting for a response for several weeks.

It truly is a shambles. Why Didn't Ryanair have robust systems in place to deal with the fallout that the latest round of cancellations were bound to create?

    Hi mama5405,

This is what the reg says....

(ii) they are informed of the cancellation between two weeks and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and are offered re-routing, allowing them to depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and to reach their final destination less than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or

So yes, Google and then download 'Vaubans Guide' for details and link to the regs.

    Good luck.

:T I used the resolver tool yesterday to claim compensation under EU261 regulations.

Today I got an email from Ryanair saying that they have authorised a cheque for £220.45 in full and final settlement of my claim........will be sent within 14 working days.

It is too good to be true, so easy, thank you.

    (Does your multiquote tool work?)

My outbound flight was canceled so i sent compensation claim via resolver.co.uk

My question is can I do the same if my return flight arrived as scheduled?

After all I was not able to use it because all my holiday went down to drain.

No, the regulations do not allow for that, but you should get a refund.

Ryanair gave us less than 24 hours notice of cancelling our flight from Leeds Bradford to Pisa scheduled for 2nd October.

They claim that there were 21 cancellations on this day due to a handlers strike in Pisa. However, the strike was a 4 hour one from 12.00 to 16.00 and Ryanair cancelled many flights, including ours, outside of this window.

Specifically, the PSA-LBR flight had a scheduled departure time from Pisa of 11.30.
Our LBR-PSA flight had a scheduled arrival time at Pisa of 16.55.

I note that Ryanair cancelled 8 flights from Pisa before 12.00 yet had a flight departing Pisa for Alghero at 12.10 which they did not cancel. No other airlines cancelled any flights scheduled to depart Pisa before 12.00.

Ryanair was the only airline to cancel flights scheduled to arrive Pisa after 16.00 with 9 cancellation Their first non-cancelled flight after this time was scheduled to arrive at 20.55.

Perversely, Ryanair had some flights atill operating within the 12.00 to 16.00 window.

It would appear that Ryanair took the opportunity to cancel flights for some other operational reason and use the strike as an excuse.

I have launched a claim through Resolver for compensation which I expect Ryanair to reject but will escalate to try and establish what actually happened.

The really annoying thing is that the strike was announced on the Italian Dept. of Transportation site on 15th September and on the Pisa airport site on 27th September. I could not cancel our flights without losing my money yet Ryanair left it until the evening before departure (after we had finished packing) to let us know they were cancelling. This also meant I had to lose my car hire payment as they required 48 hours notice for free cancellations.

We've been fortunate that a flight booked from Warsaw next month with Ryanair, although it was cancelled, can be rebooked for later the same day. Pleased and relieved about that as it just gives us a bit more time in the city.

Because of this we've been sent 2 x 40 euro vouchers for Ryanair.

Has anyone used them? Any caveats?

We've never travelled with them before but could fly from any London Airport (Gatwick preferably) or Bristol.

Any recommendations where we could go for a city break?

Strike by baggage handlers may possibly not be an EC anyway so continue with your claim.
